New Denon Receivers

The obsolesence of receivers - as usual is staggering - I just bought my 2310 last october and the new 2311 is not only here but already discounted

Anyways I guess this is the only way new technologies are made affordable - high obsolesence. What is worse is we pay substantially more - here in the Motherland - so that obsolesence is even more painful.

Not too sure Santosh - but here in the US the 2310 is being sold off at heavy discounts. You can get one for $488 and free shipping from Amazon. I would presume in another 2 mos there will be no more stock available.

USD 488 with free shipping on a Denon 2310!! That's about 25k INR for the 2310 !! Here brand new the thing costs more than 50k!! We are seriously being ripped off.

It is quite common to mark down rcvrs. drastically during model change in the US - a practice I have not seen much in India. I wonder if it because stocks are maintained low such that there is no excess inventory - which would make sense on the low volume of sales - or if there is any other reason to this.

In India even if they have stocks of older models, they simply don't introduce the new models until they sell atleast most of the old stock. Even after the new models are introduced, distributors/retailers simply don't inform customers of the new models until they are rid of their old stock and in case someone specifically asks for the new models, they just make the availability of the new models an issue, with the hope that most custoemrs will buy whatever is available.

Is it safe to buy from foreign website from India what are all the implications we have to face while buying from amazon and all other foreign website.Can I assume $488 (488 x 47=Rs.22936) is the net price including all tax.

Amazon is reputed. So no problems from them. Customs could give you a hard time.

Ordering via amazon is ofcourse a great option as long as you are in the US or for that matter somewhere in the west.

There are three things that you seriously risk via this amazon option:

o) The courier in itself is a risky thing, getting the receiver intact with all it's contents clean and in it's place is a gamble. The courier may not accept responsibility for damage. You might want to search the forum for ppl who've had such experiences before, I've read a few and almost all of them weren't pleasant.
oo) Customs - Now if the courier gets it across in one piece and if they are able to locate it in the huge junkyard that our customs have at airports/harbours, customs WILL almost always harass you. You might end up paying dear (mentally and monetarily).
ooo) Warranty, clearly no where to run to!

IMO the Amazon option is only if you are in the US and planning to pick up. After that because the rcvr. is quite light it is easy to transport back to India in Chkd. in baggage. In regards to getting it shipped to India directly from Amazon - I think it is purely a matter of luck whether you will get it in 1 piece or if the customs decide to claim their pound of flesh from you or both :lol:
