Hi All,

after almost one year of leeching in forum I am still confused about buying a new TV. Yes it's emotional affair for me because dad bought family's first CRT TV(first a local brand named Konark, second a 25" BPL - still running fine after 14 years). Now, as a son, it is my turn to bring a big new-age TV to home. So I want it to be very good so that Dad wont make joke of me :o

By leeching, I realized Plasma is better for money and quality. But after 2-3 random visit to showroom, just for checking purpose, I felt plasma lacks the brightness of LED which pleases everyone. To cut the story short, here is my budget, requirement and confusion

Budget - up to 60k
Size - 42-50"
Viewing Distance- 8-9ft
Content - MOSTLY Movies
Source - Downloaded DVD Rip, 720p BD Rip, DVDs, occasionally DTH, very occasionally BluRays.
Features Wanted - DLNA, Wifi/inbuilt, Optical Out

Confusion#1 - LED or Plasma (pls see attached image of the place i will turn to some sort of poor home theater thing. brightly day lighted though I will try check it through curtains)

Confusion#2 - HD or Full HD

Confusion#3 - 42" or bigger

I like everything of LEDs except the low motion flow/refresh rate(jitter) thing. I get headache seeing action scenes in LED of my cousin. I like everything of Plasma except the brightness thing. Especially my family may not like dim lighting of Plasma.

I have Pana x42, x50, u42 in my mind. Please guide me.

I don't have anything against Plasma, but seeing the amount of day light you get (in attached image) I would say that stay away from plasma just for the simple fact that for such brightly lit room it is not recommended.

For a budget of 60k, you can go for 42" Full HD. Some of the options which I can give are Samsung 40ES5600 series & Sony 40 EX650. You can demo these 2 along with other options which you have in mind & take a call.

Seeing that you have waited long enough, i would say it may be worthwhile to wait for couple of months more as both Sony & Samsung are supposed to come out with their new 2013 series soon.

sony 430,sony 650....demo it ...get it...
yes plasma will be difficult as huge reflection...

one suggestion why not a pj..speacilaly now when pjs are so cheap...
i mean read carefully pj vs tv....of course...then decide

as u said content is movie only..
so i can assume weekly 10 hours max...
so 500 hours in a year
10 years a lamp...
enough i think.....

quick checks
optoma hd 66
optoma hd 20
acer k330
epson equivalents..

yes in that case you have to black out the area...

^ thanks idea of PJ havent crossed my mind...will research..

incase of plasma, controlling light through curtains wont help?especially we may watch on only weekends on noon...most of the time we watch at evening and night?

You should go with LED TV. The plasma will be a washout affair during the day and maybe early evening too. I suppose that you will install the TV wall mounted below the wall clock. You should go with full HD model. If my guess about installation location is correct then 40-42" will be the size to go for. With 46", the TV will go to wall corner to avoid intrusion into the window.

In my opinion, the room is too bright even for an LED but I suppose curtains can do the job. Projectors will not work either because the room is too rectangular. BTW what are the room dimensions?

Yeh, you guessed it right. Will wall mount the TV under the clock.

LED is fine. My only concern is its jitter problem during action sequence. I cannot go beyond 60k too. Anyway what LED should I get in 60k ?

room is 14ft x 8ft

At 60K, the choice is a little limited. Choices:

1. The Sony 40EX650 will be 64K. Others lower models are cheaper but then so is the PQ.
2. Samsung UA40EH6030R (better) and UA40ES5600R will be 60-62K.
3. LG 42LS4600
4. Toshiba has good models but no idea about price.
5. Panasonic ET50

Can anybody suggest in around the same fig of 60k some TV which does not flicker during action scenes?

The huge CRT tvs were better than these LCD and LEDs

I would suggest the same. A plasma is value for money for sure but the only reason i got it was because my den is dark. Looking at your picture an LED should do the job.

get a pj for ultimate movie exp...
i can say from my exp.
my pj is just diy and miles miles behind a epson or like...
in spite of the fact my tv is turned on once in a blue moon....

yes pj do have some drawbaxks...
like you have to treat the room lighting....no hot restarts ....etc..etc
consider them..

and decide..
its so immersive..no tv can give you the exp...

i am suggesting you..as you mentioned specisfically for movie usage..and limited usage..like max 10 hours a week...

In the wall meant for TV, how big a image can be projected?

If it is not more than 50", projector may be a over kill. Go for projector, when you can have a screen size of 90" or above and a sufficient viewing distance for the mentioned screen size. Also, if projector is selected, what will be the audio setup?

How good is this 50 incher LED http://www.flipkart.com/panasonic-t...YCCD&ref=d6703399-ec3d-4527-a6b4-ecfdc4135ab2

Gurujee: Check out Sony 40EX650, its a good TV in your budget.

Kindly stop posting in BOLD

Thank u all... this weekend i will demo both these Samsung UA40EH6030R as it has 200hz motion rate and Sony 40EX650...and decide accordingly...

40'' - 2 minus from 42'' wont be that big difference i guess :o

I recently acquired Toshiba 3d 46 incher for approx ~62k as it was a stock clearance.(last packed piece) Its truly amazing with PQ and motion handling (3d requires true 100hz processing. i.e: 50hz for each half image minimum) with no motion blur what so ever. I compared it with lots of other brands and found this real value for money. Pretty happy with decision. Bonus is multiple (almost all) video format on usb with play controls. (was not looking for USB features as pq was most imp but its very handy now)
Check if you can get any similar deal in your town
