Hi Guys
Completely new to this great site

Few days back I almost made up my mind to by BOSE acoustimass 5 series III. But thanks to this site.

So now the thing is that I live in Delhi and after reading many posts, I find that the suggested speakers are not sold here in a retail way.

Please suggest. Lemme give you guys my expectations:

Purpose: Music and only music. Dont give a damn to movie watching
Genre: rock/metal. SOAD, slayer, Korn kinda shit
Budget: 45-50k
Place: Delhi (prefer retail way, or an easy online buying option)

Please suggest speakers as well as amps

thanks and waiting curiously for suggestions
(please suggest otherwise i might buy BOSE in frustration )

Don't buy Bose.

Look at Klipsch speakers with a Marantz amp. You can ask the Indian dealers to ship to your location. However, its a must that you get an audition since you must buy only those components that sound good to you.

Another good speaker to check about is the Usher V601. Also, don't hesitate to look at the used gear market as you can get great deals.

Also, very important that you take your time. No point it blowing all that money on something that you may not end up enjoying. Take your time.

Also, read through this link that Denom posted: http://www.hifivision.com/speakers/8880-speakers-good-listening-hard-rock-metal.html

Hi Praveeng,

Speakers I would look for speakers with a raw edge, speaking musically of course.

I too listen to such a genre of rock, metal etc.

(Yet to find a metal song which can faze me!!!)

B&W would be a good choice in terms of speakers and I am sure many other people can suggest better.

Amps have not thought of yet

Cheers

Thanks for the reply guys

Okay then. I have read almost all posts on similar context.
Soon i shall come up with a list of options that suit me. Will be posting again with queries.

till then plz plz keep providing me with options......

Hi guys

To my surprise and rather disappointment, I could find only these speakers available in Delhi-

klipsch, JBL, KEF, Mordaunt Short, Jamo...apart from some commons like yamaha, sony etc.

One thing i am still confused is that many people have recommended those speakers which are not available in all metros in India and some are not even available in India, but still you guys insist on having audition of the speakers.

How am I supposed to audition them. I dont think it would be wise choice to fly all the way to mumbai, banglore, chennai or other places, spend money on travel and end up buying ahuja speakers coz i might have already spent my budgeted amount then.

Temme guys where am I going wrong.

Do they ship speakers just for demo and auditions..I dont think so.

and I would be auditioning the listed speakers in Delhi this weekend. Will definitely pass on my experience.

whats your room size. if it isnt too big then you'd get better sq out of a good pair of bookshelves than floorstanders, budget being the same. take a walk into a monitor audio outlet and listen to the bronze floorstanders vis a vis the silver series rx2 bookshelves.

as for the amp, nad is not so hot to play rock. try out the cambridge and marantz. but first decide on your speakers

Praveen, try to contact other Delhi based forum members who own speakers that you are interested in. Some of them may be willing to give you a home audition of their setup. After that at least you will be able to narrow down your choices.

All the best with your search!

Thanks for your replies people

I did some more research and found that monitor, lyrita, paradigm and wharfedale too are available here in Delhi.
so the list is building up.

@afj: my room is a medium sized rather smaller one
@bluu: thanks for the tip of having a home audition. will definitely try it.

will come up with a list of dealers in Delhi for speakers to help Delhi folks on this forum.

will be posting my experience of auditioning soon..

praveen...

Well guys

I am done with auditions of most of the speakers here in delhi which i shortlisted.

Lemme share my experience in brief
I had been auditioning for like one month now, and i can vividly recollect my experiences. Sorry that I am no expert in defining sound in technical terms but i do understand music as a music lover, thats it.

My music: hard rock/metal
CDs i took with me for auditions:

metallica (relaod, master of puppets, black), system of a down (toxicity, mesmerize, hypnotize), korn(greatest hits), scars on broadway(self titled), sabbath, RHCP(greatest hits), pink floyd(echoes, the wall)
hindi: junoon (azaadi, dosti) lucky ali (sifar)

Audition 1: PSB speakers @ lakozy, lajpat nagar, delhi

Heard image b5 and b6, with NAD amps: image b6 had been the most peaceful speakers i heard out of all demos. Bit bright but
one could listed to them for long hours without fatique to ears. great speakers. as compared to b6, b5 were not that great.

Audition 2: wharf, monitor, QUAD, polk @ bass n treble, dwarka, delhi

All speakers with Marantz 6003.
Monitor: not that great, disturbing brightness at few instances of songs.
QUAD and polk just average.
Wharf: i realized that i found a set of speakers that suit my genre. Solid punch at mids and lows and no unnecessary brightness. the diamond 10.5 sounded better than the 9.5 ones.
diamond 10.5, i felt, were losing the momentum. system of a down's radio/video song from mezmerize album has got engaging ryhtmic composition and 10.5 were trying hard to keep upto
that rythm.and this was the only thing that lacked in them. But by far, very suitable speakers for rock/metal as they delivered right punch and laid backness.

Audition 3: paradigm, JBL @ gemini traders, CP, delhi

All with cambridge audio amps.
forget JBL, sounded just average
the monitor series from paradigm were out of my range but seemed quite good.
then Mr Bharat Gupta made me listen to the special edition series's floorstanding speakers- simply great.
right punch, almost absolute reporoduction of the song, though bright only for a few numbers. Loved the experience but they might get you tired after long loud listening. but then metal music tends to do that.

AAudition 4: klipsch, jamo @ cinebels (decibels), CR park, delhi
Jamo first: not suitable for my music. just average for other kinda music as well i guess. so leave them.
Klipsch were not attached to ammplifiers but to marantz av receiver, so thats why i guess the sound was not delivered with good punch.
i heard from someone whom i met during all my audition processes that Klipsch were just speakers that lack quality (wont name that person). mmmmm, so i thought lets spare klipsch.

Audition 5: Mordaunt short @ fx enetrtainment, CR park, delhi
MS aviano: bit too smooth and bright, dint spend much time there and went away.

After all this I shortlisted three speakers:
Wharfedale 10.5
Paradigm SE3
PSB image b6

I have almost made up my mind to get one of them. will post my purchase soon.

Keep guessing guys.

Praveen,

i do listen to a lot of metal, the likes of Pantera, Slayer, Megadeth, Overkill, Kreator, Cannibal Corpse and all those kinda stuff. I have a denon amp and MS aviano 2 speakers. Trust me those can make the music live.. But my hifi guy keeps saying that, when i have the money, get a Klipsch. It can create a concert in my house. So I would ask you to audition the MS aviano 2 or a Klipsch preferably RF 52.

i heard from someone whom i met during all my audition processes that Klipsch were just speakers that lack quality (wont name that person). mmmmm, so i thought lets spare klipsch.

Extremely sad that you went by heresy & did not even listen to Klipsch Speakers. Anyway, since you've already bought your speakers, no point in taking this any further, but do not ever make such a mistake again. Listen to Klipsch speakers & then judge for yourself if they 'lack quality'

Klipsch speakers are meant for Hard Rock/Metal - Trust me when I say this!

Well...

@jk chaos: i heard MS aviano with cambridge amps. as i already stated that they were bright, they actually were, but to my ears. and if you like the sound of your speakers then believe me there is nothin better than that.
I wish i also like the sound of mine new ones.

@denom: yeah, i might have liked klipsch..but when i heard them with marantz receiver, the sound was too bleak and lacked the punch..in fact i told the klipsch guy to set it up with suitable amps and give me call..i dint follow up just coz of quality perception and they dint revert back..so eventually klipsch took a back seat..yeahh..may be i made a mistake..but i cudnt wait for more days bro..

but i am happy with the way my new set up is performing...shall post the details and pics soon..

i am sorry for not updating anything...
actually there is something going on in here...
will give detailed story in a couple of days...
till then assume that my stereo set up is not final yet..

ok people

sorry for not updating anythin...

So the set up i bought is
wharfedale dia 10.5 and marantz pm6003 amp..
lemme give a brief review and pour some serious queries:

these 10.5 are mature, rich, loud and brilliant at mids...but they lack the excitement and rythm. i have tried many songs and the result is the same..they had me disappointed..
before proceeding further..lemme mention my bad...my music source is sony blu ray player and my lappy (lenovo thinkpad t410) as of now....i know now that sources really matter and my sources suck afa music listening is concerned...
so i contacted my dealer (denny from bass n treble, delhi) and shared my experience and this gentle guy was ready to have me these exchanged if the case may be..
one fine day i called up denny for reaudition but he wanted to have a look at my set up before that. he made a visit to my place and after all listening he suggested me to go for a DAC...

so in a couple of days i might try a dac (music fidelity m1dac or v-dac) when its avilable with denny....

Now my queries are

- should i wait for a try with DAC?? or
- should i start a round of audition again and have warfe 10.5 exchanged ??(coz i dont think that the issue of excitement and rythm can be resolved by using a DAC)..or
- simply what should i do??

so please help me guys..this is a poor guys beginning into the hifi music space..and he doesnt wanna end up disappointed...
