Well guys
I am done with auditions of most of the speakers here in delhi which i shortlisted.
Lemme share my experience in brief
I had been auditioning for like one month now, and i can vividly recollect my experiences. Sorry that I am no expert in defining sound in technical terms but i do understand music as a music lover, thats it.
My music: hard rock/metal
CDs i took with me for auditions:
metallica (relaod, master of puppets, black), system of a down (toxicity, mesmerize, hypnotize), korn(greatest hits), scars on broadway(self titled), sabbath, RHCP(greatest hits), pink floyd(echoes, the wall)
hindi: junoon (azaadi, dosti) lucky ali (sifar)
Audition 1: PSB speakers @ lakozy, lajpat nagar, delhi
Heard image b5 and b6, with NAD amps: image b6 had been the most peaceful speakers i heard out of all demos. Bit bright but
one could listed to them for long hours without fatique to ears. great speakers. as compared to b6, b5 were not that great.
Audition 2: wharf, monitor, QUAD, polk @ bass n treble, dwarka, delhi
All speakers with Marantz 6003.
Monitor: not that great, disturbing brightness at few instances of songs.
QUAD and polk just average.
Wharf: i realized that i found a set of speakers that suit my genre. Solid punch at mids and lows and no unnecessary brightness. the diamond 10.5 sounded better than the 9.5 ones.
diamond 10.5, i felt, were losing the momentum. system of a down's radio/video song from mezmerize album has got engaging ryhtmic composition and 10.5 were trying hard to keep upto
that rythm.and this was the only thing that lacked in them. But by far, very suitable speakers for rock/metal as they delivered right punch and laid backness.
Audition 3: paradigm, JBL @ gemini traders, CP, delhi
All with cambridge audio amps.
forget JBL, sounded just average
the monitor series from paradigm were out of my range but seemed quite good.
then Mr Bharat Gupta made me listen to the special edition series's floorstanding speakers- simply great.
right punch, almost absolute reporoduction of the song, though bright only for a few numbers. Loved the experience but they might get you tired after long loud listening. but then metal music tends to do that.
AAudition 4: klipsch, jamo @ cinebels (decibels), CR park, delhi
Jamo first: not suitable for my music. just average for other kinda music as well i guess. so leave them.
Klipsch were not attached to ammplifiers but to marantz av receiver, so thats why i guess the sound was not delivered with good punch.
i heard from someone whom i met during all my audition processes that Klipsch were just speakers that lack quality (wont name that person). mmmmm, so i thought lets spare klipsch.
Audition 5: Mordaunt short @ fx enetrtainment, CR park, delhi
MS aviano: bit too smooth and bright, dint spend much time there and went away.
After all this I shortlisted three speakers:
Wharfedale 10.5
Paradigm SE3
PSB image b6
I have almost made up my mind to get one of them. will post my purchase soon.
Keep guessing guys.
