I had purchased an Onkyo 616 AVR in 2013 when I resided in Singapore. I moved back to India in late 2013 and brought along my receiver with me. It needed some repairs recently and I approached the Onkyo Mumbai Service centre. First, they flatly refused to offer any service, even though I was not expecting free service under warranty. Then, I called Onkyo India office in Chennai and explained to them my circumstances that I happened to buy the Onkyo when I lived abroad and shifted to India. How can they refuse service to me? They agreed to service but demanded that I show proof of residence in Singapore. After I furnished all the proofs, my AVR was accepted for servicing.
This is highly ridiculous process. I felt as if I had done some illegal thing by buying Onkyo product abroad and shipping it here. Not even the Customs department in Mumbai demanded such documentation when I brought the AVR.
Anyway, the Mumbai service centre looks highly unprofessional and I doubt if it has a clean room to service the electronic components. I would highly recommend outside service for Onkyo in Mumbai.
