Just letting folks know - you can now play burn and play DVD-Audio discs for rupees 1300/-

ChannelTimes.com > Business Network > Market News > Sony Launches AD-7220S-ID Optical Drive

If you use a 802.11n/g capable netbook with <3.5mm-jack-co-axial-rca> amp and pull the files over from your PC, one should get audiophile quality with none of the degradations that PCs and their SMPSes give :)

One of the formats supported by this player is DVD-Audio.

Cheers

Looks good, but I'm pretty sure what they mean by 'DVD-Audio' is just audio files off of a DVD and not true DVD-A. Especially since Sony's SACD was a competing format for high-definition multi-channel audio...

The feature set seems to showcase the dust-proof levels of the drive.

Seems like the term DVD-Audio is being misused quite a bit on many forums. The article authour is causing more confusion by mixing this up with Sony Corp. as they do not support that format at all. I think calling is Audio-DVD is a better way out of this. This means DVDs that have songs on them instead of videos.

Actually here is the official logo file in PDF DVD FLLC - DVD Logo

The licensing for Multi is here: DVD FLLC - License

The bottom table shows DVD-Audio is not essential for a DVD-MultiDrive writer (typical PC component). Any idea what is a DVD audio/video recorder as compared to DVD-MultiDrive writer?

After some further searching on this official site I found that Sony is one of the contributors to the DVD-Audio test suite besides Matsushita and Pioneer.

Its only 1300/- maybe I will double check with the distie and pick one up to experiment :)

TIA

MultiDrives are implementations of a new standard that offers cross compability between DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM which are supported by the DVD Consortium.

It support R & R/W of these formats.

Samsung/Matsushita/Teac/Philips/Hitachi/sony have adopted this standard in their offerings.
