Which is better Nvidia tv shield pro or apple TV for home theatre? Mostly for watching on streaming platform and with dolby atmos setup with eARC 2.1 144 hrz tv
Opinion varies. I have got both Apple TV and nvidia.
I feel nvidia is far superior in sound quality especially punchy lfe.apple tv image is more smooth.
If you don’t have a serious home theatre setup, either option will work fine. However, the Nvidia Shield delivers bit perfect Dolby audio, which the Apple TV does not. Even so, when compared directly, the audio output from both is inferior to using eARC from the TV. For general use, though, they are perfectly adequate.

None of the streaming services offer anything more than Dolby Digital Plus, so anything is fine , even a Fire stick 4k. So, the support for bitstream is moot!
Apple TV should be chosen for a more fluid UI and integration with your Apple ecosystem(if you are an Apple user already).
Purely for streaming, NVidia is pointless, especially without any support whatsoever.
How can the audio output from both be worse than eARC? All there of them support HDMI2.0 at the very least. All audio signals should be equal.

Both have different use case scenario if you are not into serious home theater stuff and don't use local streaming of blu ray file of file size 50gb and above dont care about dolby true hd audio/dts hd ma go for apple tv since apple tv only support DD+ atmos and not Dolby true hd atmos.
All streaming services use DD+ atmos which typically stream audio upto bandwidth of max 500-800kbps and where as in dolby true hd audio bandwidth will upto 9000kbps or 9mbps so all of these details get compressed due to internet bandwidth limitations.
In streaming app video wise apple tv will get a slight advantage in HDR content but not miles away with shield.
