Hi,

I know at least 4 people on this forum who have this projector. I got mine yesterday but since I dont have a wall at the right place and no screen - cannot comment much except the projector seemed very bright and also at 3 feet away can feel the heat. Not much noise though. Will try and get to project it on a proper wall and if not - will try projecting on a home made cloth screen till I figure out the best screen option. Would appreciate if we can use this thread to discuss everything about this projector.

My projector details:
Acer 5360
Amazon.com via visiting friend - total cost around 420 dollars incl shipping

Also got the monoprice convertor for 100 dollars and 4 DLP glasses for 160 dollars - yet to receive them.

Thanks for posting a thread for this projector. I am also planning to buy this one. Its now available for $429

Total cost to shipping to India

Items: $429.99
Shipping & Handling: $69.99
Total before tax: $499.98
Estimated tax to be collected:* $0.00
Total: $499.98

Let me know your thoughts on this projectors quality. Is it worth to buy. I will use it for only watching movies( blurays, brrips). Is the picture quality nears theater quality.

Congrats! Could you please share more about converter & DLP glasses?
A plain white or even very light wall would be a best option till you get new screen. Thats because you get full plain surface without any wrinkles and 90 degrees straight on all side.

Even I am a soon-to-be owner of Acer H5360!! I will be getting the projector from US (a friend will bring it in). I see a few members getting the projector from US and it will be good to stay in touch with each other so that we can resolve any issues.

Yeah..that was the intention of this thread.

I am a total novice and hence it is difficult to say if its good or bad. I am pretty impressed by my 720p Plasma..hence you can call me a bit forgiving about picture quality. My initial thoughts were that they do not compare to a TV - guess they are not supposed to - that was because the wall was only 3-4 feet from me. May be if we can project it at 120 inches big and watch it from 10 feet, it wont be that bad. My only concern after using it for 15 mins was that at 3 feet away, I could warm myself with the heat at night as Blore now a days is a bit chilly. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Today I will try and post some pics

What about Customs? I am not sure if we should expect this to be of theater quality. This is after all a 720p projector plus we are sitting much closer than a theater

That's the first time I have heard about such a benefit of a PJ

Do take some time out and set it up properly - projecting on the plain wall (even if its not entirely plain) will give you a good idea. Also try it out at night / darkened environment.. Make sure you use a reasonably good video source..

Congrats on your purchase and have fun..

The customs rate is not mentioned on the checkout. Can anybody tell me how much will be custom cost.

Thanks

If someone can carry from US then its vfm, they can keep in hand baggage.

Thanks,
Praveen.
sent from SGS2 skyrocket.

Yeah.. I meant buying from US sitting in India paying customs plus shipping without warranty - I would say not worth it because in the end you might save 10-15% on local price.

Images/Photographs

Here are some pics. Taken in mid afternoon with maximum sunlight. Will try and post some pics at night where I get some darkness although not 100% due to street lamps next door.

First photo..just to give you an idea of how much light I had when I clicked these pics. Projector is at left bottom over my kid's head

Wii @ 480p - also gives the amount of light I had - In reality even this photo masks the actual light. All the other photos below that has black background - that's just my camera picking up less light.

Star movies HD with my kid to judge the scale of the image - around 4-5 feet in length I would say. This is my "side" wall and my projector was around 9 feet away since my Hall width is 10 feet. Unfortunately I don't have a wall which is 15 feet away to test a 10 feet image. (showcases on both sides of my hall)

As it gets darker, HD looks really good. I have one issue though - in almost every video, some parts of the screen gets shinier - particularly those parts where it is already shiny...like say studio lights falling on someone's oily skin - not sure what this is effect is called? washed out images? how do I control that? For want of a better word - its like people have that skin disease which makes them skin whiter. (Psoriasis/leucoderma?)

I guess this observation is on the plain wall and not on a proper screen. Try on the pj screen and/or using some calibration disc or images and adjust the pj video/image settings, hopefully with little tweaking, this would be setup just right. Another option may be to play with the eco mode/brightness settings.

Another good way to judge a PJs capabilities is to watch the dark scenes like in Batman, 300, etc and see how good the contrast and details are shown.

Will do that although not sure if this projectors gives us a ton of features to play with. Yesterday when I did serious watching for an hour - this feature is very evident in every second of the video and am seriously considering writing to Amazon about it. I will try and post some videos or photos today

That's probably TI's BrilliantColor. Try turning it off.
Another thing you should try is get the color temp to 6500. I am not sure what the default is on Acer. you will need to cycle through the menus to find these options.

Thanks. I dont think its because of the wall. Maybe over brightness or over color. I did reduce brightness to eco mode and nothing much happened. Even my folks who cant differentiate between 1080P and 240P remarked that the screen quality was unacceptable. This could be a show stopper - hope I will sort this out soon. Thx

I was going through the reviews & manual.
Try wall color adjustment from color menu if it suits better.

Overall I found reviews are good as price -performance point.
Regarding your issue:
The brightness seems on higher side than required which is due to longer throw distance of this model to create a bigger image.
