Hi,

I need your advice on whether I can use my old Technics 4.1 Speakers on an AVR (say Denon 1713 or Yamaha RX-V473).
============================================
Speaker details are as follows (13-14 years old) working well
TECHNICS
SURROUND/SATELLITE(2) MODEL SB-PS10
IMPEDENCE: 4 Ohms
INPUT : 50W MUSIC: 25W DIN

MAIN SPEAKERS (2) MODEL SB-CH770
IMPEDENCE: 6 Ohms
INPUT : 100W MUSIC: 50W DIN

CENTER (1) MODEL SB-PC10
IMPEDENCE: 8 Ohms
INPUT : 160W MUSIC: 80W DIN
========================================
My Technics Music System has 4 separate units [Stereo Amp; Tuner/Sound Processor; 5CD Disc Changer; Twin-Tape Deck]. Most of it's features have stopped working & i do not know where to get it serviced. I live in Mumbai.

My PC i7-3770K is connected to my 47"LED by HDMI. I have a collection of over 1400 full HD movies. I also have a Sherwood Blu-ray player (connected HDMI directly to TV). Size of my room is 10 x 23ft.

I was thinking of buying an new AVR. My preference is 80%movies and 20%music.

So can I use my existing Technics Speakers ? Would they match with a Denon 1713 ?
Do I need to get any further speakers ?
Is my center speaker (technics 8 ohm/160W) a sub ?

Keeping my fingers Xcrossed. Please guide me accordingly and let me know if there is any further info that you need.

Thanks
Terry

is this your setup?
It's a 5.0 setup. Your speakers should work fine as long as you dont turn up the volume too much. The denon is a 80WPC reciever, your 5.0 is a has much less input. It would help if you got a decent sub,

Nice looking amp btw :)

Oops... I cannot check the reference image that you have given "403:Forbidden" error. Will try to upload the actual pics tomorrow.

Thanks @greenhorn for your quick reply

Could you kindly explain "your 5.0 is a has much less input. It would help if you got a decent sub"
So what would be the max volume I could run these speakers on the Denon ?
What is "80WPC" receiver ?
Could you suggest a "sub" to match this setup?

see attachment of an image that I found on the net of my setup. What function would my center speaker 8ohms/160W perform?

as listed in your first post, your surround speakers can accept upto 25W, your front speakers can accept up to 50W and your centre can accept up to 80W. The denon has a much higher power output, so if you turn up the volume, you can potentially damage all speakers, and possibly the reciever too.

the safe solution would be to buy a reciever which has around 45W output, but that would be too cheap. If you trust your self control, go ahead and buy the denon :)

What are the advantages/disdvantages of Denon 1513 vs 1713 for the current Technics speaker setup [Note: I am prepared to add a sub -budget upto 15k for the sub]

Would the Audyssey callibration work with my techics speaker setup?

Any idea on the efficiency (Or) the sensitivity of the speakers ?

Your left, right & center speaker would work fine with any AVR...Doubting you surround speakers as it is 4 Ohms only...If the model you are looking for is mentioned as 4 Ohms capable, then you are fine...

Audessey calibration is for room acoustics..They will work with any speakers...

For 15K Sub you can consider Astonia /Sonodyne Roarr 108/210 models..

..

Am lost  How do I figure this out ? (Dammit... I must locate the detailed manual that came with this technics unit).

I must say that you guyz are really giving me HOPE - that all is not lost with my old system :clapping:

OK...I should'nt be too lazy ehh
Googled and found some answers - [however how am I going to measure this sensitivity as I do not have any "meter's" ???]

Nothing to worry buddy...I googled with your speker model #

Front Left & Right spekaers SB-CH770 - 86 db efficiency/sensitivity, Nominal Power 50W... Even the other speakers should be around the same...

So you can go ahead & use it with your AVR...

At the time of Audition, take your surround speakers, req the person in the showroom to hook it up as surrounds...

If it works fine, then you will need to buy only the AVR :ohyeah: & of course Sub...

@ a later point of time, you can upgrade your speakers when they give up..

other firnds suggested you perfectly.
you can carry also your centre to get a liking of sound signature and to choose from avr makes
imho if you get 1612 get it...it will be around 26k or less being a last year model.

Thanks guyz for all your inputs. I shall definately take my surround (satellite) & center for the audition.

NOW FOR THE AVR - budget below 30k
1] I am not really keen on - networking/android/windows 7 features (actually not sure).
2] Much of my music is on my computer - can I playback using the HDMI connected to the AVR ?
3] Would the Yamaha RX-V373 be a good buy?
[Other option is Denon 1513 or 1612 ]

Thanks
Terry

Note: I am not interested in Onkyo (too overpriced); Marantz 1402 - dunno;

Have you considered the Pioneer AVR's ?

Yes - The VSX-822K (it's priced quite high almost 35k). Not sure how good their support is. I am from Mumbai.

Could you help me with answers to my doubts - "Much of my music is on my computer - can I playback using the HDMI connected to the AVR ? "

How would you guys rate these three ?
Denon 1612
Yamaha RX-V373
Pioneer VSK-822-K

An other tip here....Never scout for uptodate receivers / latest models....Look for 1- 2 yrs old model...There might be 1 or 2 pieces leftout...You can get them for good discounts if you are lucky..:)

Reg your question, Yes..It should be possible.. Am trying to add HDMI port to my CPU & connect it to my AVR....Not much of exposure on this...Other FM will def help you....

There really isn't any difference between receivers....So don't ged hooked to any brand....All does the same 5.1/7.2..It differs only in features....

Something like Room calibration, Zone output, Some have Airplay function, some can play music from USB/HDD... like that

So choose a receiver that offer better feature (Which you think you can benefit) for a competitive price....

Right now my PC is connected to my LG 47"LED by HDMI - I use MPC-HC x64 media player for all my 1080p Movies [Settings in MPC player for audio have been configured]. The other media players that I have VLC, Quicktime, WMP cannot be used - as the audio is configured for the PC-Speakers.

Now MPC-HCx64 is not a great player for music files (at least for me as I like Virtual DJ, even the goold old winamp etc). I guess there should be a solution as I do not want to add additional cables from my PC to AVR to handle both Audio & Video solutions.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
