Hey guyz,
I often see this question more based on specific models, like two small JBL or one Klipsch 12"? My search on Klipsch or Polk Audio or Boston or Deftech or Velodyne subs reveals that the most common issue is burned electronic board or ofter breaking fuses which surfaces soon after 1 year or 2 year warranty expires. Is this because of the overkill on the amplifier that people do? Say to fill a decently bigger size room you may tend to increase the subwoofer volumes quite a lot and prolonged use burns the amplifier or the board? I am a newbie to the whole HT world and how amplifiers or subs work is not known to me. But if there are technically sound people out there who can put some light on this, it would be helpful.
So my actual question is based on the above stated issue. If it happens so then the solution is either to go for a much higher powered sub - 600 watt? 800watt? or 1000watt? But those models will be very costly right? Can similar volume be achieved with a combination of two 100 watts or 200 watts sub? So that you do not have to increase the sub volume level to the highest to get the 300watt out; instead get the same with 60-70% of two 200 watts subs? And because of this you save the life of your investment for few more years?
Any kind of model comparison (either real life or your experience during auditions) will be welcome as that will further strengthen your point.
BTW, the reason for this post is basically my hunt for a decent subwoofer. I have first short listed whart150 but later found myself not much convinced by the whole sound quality for movies. Now I am looking at all other brands including Klipsch, Velodyne, Boston, Paradigm, QAccoustics etc. A general search on Klipsch's sub10 and sub12 reveals that there are lot of issues reported on these models soon after an year or two.
Thanks in advance!
