Hi ,

I bought this Onkyo HT-S5500 2 months back. Due to house renovation i just started using it now. I am facing this strange problem. This reciver gets struck at one option. You switch off and again the same.It strucks at USB/DOCK/TV etc. and then other functions stops working. Nothing works on it. I went to service centre, there it surprisingly started working fine and again i am facing the same issue at my home. Please help anyone.

Hi Sumitprasad,

1) The first thing recommended is to reset your receiver according to the instructions manual. Sometimes the microprocessor reset solves all problems. It is most probably a combination of pressing a few buttons on the unit. Try and let us know.

Hi Vinod

Thanks for your prompt reply. I try to reset the receiver but no button works. I again went to to the service center surprisingly it works there. Can electric voltage cause this? Is your receiver working fine?

Hello Sumitprasad,

My receiver (Denon 3803) is an pre HDMI receiver and has worked fine for the last 8 years (Bought used in 2005). It has also survived an horrible shipping journey from Bangalore to Thrissur. God is great I would say.

Anyway coming back to you, try disconnecting all the wires and cables so that your receiver is free of all cables (I am sure you would taken it like that to the service centre) and try connecting to another power socket in the house. Check that out.

Then if you have a friendly neighbour, go to his house and check your receiver there. If it works there normally, then there should be some problem with the voltage in your house OR in that particular socket.

Hi Vinod,

I checked my AVR at my office power socket, but it had the same problem. It now hangs on VCR Mode. I tried at my neighbour power socket but same problem.

Now service guys are asking me to leave the AVR for a week with them, then they will decide what to do.

If you have any update please advice.

P.S. Anyone facing/faced such an issue please revert.

Hi Sumit,

Since you are in warranty, and it is only 2 months old. Get the whole unit changed. Try to get a brand new unit. No service. It's Onkyo's responsibility.

Make sure you get a new and not refurbished one, unless of course the problem is very minor, then you can have your unit fixed.
