So after a lot of hunting and waiting I managed to snag this Onkyo Integra T-9090 FM (Super)tuner from the Netherlands. Cosmetically it is a 9/10.
What can I say about the performance? Stunning! This thing is ultra sensitive! Where my previous Technics ST-S6 could get 26db signal strength, the onkyo manages to squeeze out 40-44db out of the air! And it has so many buttons
Sound quality is jaw dropping too. I've not heard a tuner with a wider soundstage ever. Easily beats my Sansui TU 9500 in this department. I'm not kidding when I say it rivals CD players for width and depth of soundstage.
It sounds almost like an analog tuner and has a 99.99% black background. With a good station it'll be easy to forget that it's FM. There is a weeee tiny bit of that "digital tuner" sound that can creep in depending on the music but you have to strain to hear that (only if you have a good analog tuner and A/B them you'll hear this difference). But for overall sound I doubt it can be beaten. I'm very satisfied and will probably never suffer from upgraditis (in the tuner department)
