Will Onkyo HT-S3500 be a good purchase?

I have a SONY 40 LED (model EX440) and am planning to add an Onkyo HT-S3500 to it.

I have enquired and found very few places to buy Onkyo products in Calcutta/ Kolkata after physically verifying/ judging the product.

Promises Instruments Pvt. Ltd. of Shakespeare Sarani, Kolkata has quoted me Rs.33,000/ today (i.e. 6th July 2013) over phone. However, the sales executive invited me to visit their showroom to experience the 'demo' and they also have some "special offer" :clapping: which they will disclose on personal meetings.

As far as I know, this Onkyo seems to be available in India within Rs.28,000/- or less. But I am not finding any other options to buy in Kolkata.

Though there seems to be few sellers in Kolkata, but Onkyo websites list only 2 sellers in Kolkata one being the Promises Instruments Pvt. Ltd. and the other one a Reliance Digital near Garia. The site has strictly warned against buying from sources not authorised by the company.

I would like to know what will be a fair price of Onkyo HT-S3500 in Kolkata? Or any other suggestions that you want to give me...

Thanks in advance, will wait for your response.

If this is a HTiB, you could look at competing models from Yamaha and Denon.

Yamaha outlet is near Karaya Road, lane opposite Computer Wizards.

ProFx (Denon) is located on Hindustan Road, very near Bhojohori Manna.

All Reliance Digital outlet would be authorized. Think they are coming up with a new store in Behala very soon. Should be offers galore then.

This is a HTiB. What are the competitive models from Yamaha and Denon. Can you tell me the model name.

My budget is around Rs.25,000/- to Rs.30,000/-

Thanks.

Sorry, have no clue about the models.

Is your budget absolutely fixed? Separates are always recommended.

It is not absolutely fixed but if required I can increase it to Rs.35,000/- and a bit more if there is any finance option available (as far as I was told by Promises that finance from Bajaj Finance option is available). However, my preferable range is between Rs.25,000/- to Rs.30,000/-. I want to invest in a system for the next 5 years.

For info: The room is 210 sq.ft (i.e. 17x12)
I will use it for 50% music and 50% movies.
For tv view I use a HD set top box from Manthan.
Source of movies - directly from HDD/ usb.

I think the above info will help others to understand my need.

Thanks,

shuv is correct
go separate..
if budget is tight
start with an avr and 2 front bs only
buy other s later
profx has full emi offer can chek that
like u can buy a 1312/1513 and 2 polk rti bs as a start

onkyo avr is fantastic for cinemas..but here it is highly overpriced..specially in promises..zata price..
however if you like onkyo sound must must go for it.
also take demo in profx for denon+polk
for yamaha there is digital acoustics(dont know their finance scheme)
for denon and other speakers harmonie audio, new alipore(dont knwo about finance sceheme)
there are few more shops also..can check them

Thanks.

I was once lounging around in Reliance Digital and happened to listen to a package from Pioneer in the 35k-40k range. I think the AVR was VSX-322. Speakers were 5.1 with 2 towers in front.
Sound was decent.
But that was some time back.

This is a holiday season, so maybe you can get a deal in some multi-brand shop?

Best Wishes.

@ RMCWS>> If you don't mind my asking...can you please share which model you finally buy and your experience so far? Thanks.

I came to this forum with an intention to buy a HTIB within 25-30K but ended up buying separates (over an year or so) and spend around a lakh or more.

I am currently using a YAMAHA avr with sonodyne fronts/ centre and subwoofer. Please check my signature for the details av components.

Let me know if you require further info.

thanks a lot for the prompt response...i will open a new thread specifying my requirements to seek guidance/ suggestion from fellow members here.

This query of mine is more for members owning Onkyo HTiB like Onkyo HT S3500 or HT-S3700. As I understood going thru the specs, the sub-woofer is a down firing one. Isn't that a problem? in a sense that the sub tends to undergo a lot of displacement while in action, it won't stay at the initial place and will gradually shift from there mainly on marble floors?
