Hi,
I think you have maid your mind for Denon.
See speakers are 6 ohms & Denon 75 @ 8ohms .For 6ohm speakers
power delivered by AVR may be 100 to 120watts.If the speakers demand
more power for any reason,Denon may distort.
If you check powersupply of Denon,it wil be less powerfull than Onkyo.
Pls check continuous power requirement of speakers,it may be less.

So if you want Denon go for different speaker packages(wharfadale)
Pure acoustics are average sounding & harsh sounding.

Other hand Onkyo builds better amp in terms of power. The speakers
from Onkyo may not be popular, but after hearing them only you decide.

Lastly

Music 70%,movies 30%- Denon
Movies70% ,music30%- Onkyo

Girl21,

I thought you already have a system connected to an LG TV? I may be mistaken, but I thought I have seen you many times recommending LG and Onkyo systems to other people. Anyhow......

Regarding cost of Wharfedale speakers, ManiJ has published a spreadsheet with all the prices. Please look it up at:

http://www.hifivision.com/speakers/2074-wharfedale-9-5-towers-vs-9-2-bookshelves-3.html

Regarding your questions? - Denon AVR is best with Jamo or Profx or Wharfadale.. - Onkyo AVR is best with which speakers????, these are difficult, maybe impossible to answer. There are many imponderables here - individual taste being the most important. Some one may like a bright combination, others may like hard base. What you must look for is near matching of impedance, speaker sensitivity, and power handling capacity of the speakers. Beyond that you must personally listen to the speaker/AVR combination before putting in your money.

The general consensus in this Forum is that Wharfedales work well with both Denon and Onkyo. I have personally heard and recommended Denon/Polk Audio combination also. This was done based upon the budget of the buyer.

Of course, if you are looking for an HTIB system all these points are moot.

Cheers

Venky,

I had finalise on OnkyoHT-S 5100 (7.1 channel) but received a offer from of Denon AVR1509(5.1) +fusion speakers....

(my budget is Max Rs.40000/- and both are in same range)

Looking at budget its difficult for saperate AVR & Speakers.

I personally bought Onkyo HTiBs two yrs back and now started upgrating.
Recently I got Tannoy F1 custom for 15k and well matched with Onkyo.

You can expand budget for

Onkyo 506- Rs.25000
Wharfedale diamond 9 HCP-Rs.34000

Personaly I didnt like Wharf simply because they are not as open as Tannoy
or Moadaunt-short.

As you said you need mostly for movies Onkyo will deliver more power.
Denon receivers may soud harsh for movies.

Thanks yarr... then will go ahead with OnkyoHT-S5100

You are the first person on this forum who has said that Denon may sound harsh for movies. :) Do you some experience in this?

The Onkyo TX-SR 505 is out as the receiver in the HTS5100 is more advanced and nearer to the SR-TX506.

Between the HT5100 and the Denon 1509 there is hardly any difference. Please see the attached spreadsheet. So you have to listen to both system and buy what you like and the one that fits within your budget. You may not be able to listen to Wharfedale speakers with the Denon as PorFx will demo only Polk. But you must listen to Wharfedale also, even if it is with another receiver.

Cheers

Hi Venkat,

When I was looking for Ht.I listened to both Dennon & Onkyo many places.

That time I took audition of Onkyo 503 & Denon 1706 side by side.
I found Denon was more musical. But when I saw some movie clips,
the treble was little harsh/sharp(with polk spk)

Other way Onkyo delivered correct sound with the same.Even now thats the
reason why whathifi has given all 3 avr awards to Onkyo not Denon.
They have even told that Onkyo is not good for music(606)

By the way I have already posted few links on Pany SD viewing &100Hzs
in TV section. Did you see that?

The harshness could also be because of the speakers.

Well I have no issues. Only thing is that there are many Denon lovers who would form a group to beat all anit-Denon guys up. :) Just joking.

Please send me the link. I am getting tired to constantly looking at all postings, and nowadays only look at those that have a interesting heading.

giri21 - what did you buy finally?
Anyone - when are onkyo HTIB 6100 and 7100 coming to India?

regards

Girl21,

Since you've not purchased your system yet, I just thought I'd give you a link to another place where I posted a quick review of the Denon 1509 / ProFX Fusion 5 speaker combo. I am yet to post this on this forum.

Which Home theater system? - Page 41 - Team-BHP

Summarising, I was pretty happy with the sound from the 2 and even for music (I tested 2 of my favourite audio CDs, one of them being Michael Jackson's Dangerous album) the system was pretty good. The only thing I was not so comfortable with was the non-equalised sound, since I am used to a Kenwood 13-band graphic equaliser and spectrum analyser unit connected to my Pioneer 50W RMS amp in my room (with Sony 75W RMS speakers, 3-way bass reflex).

For the price, I'd say it is a steal and I am also planning to go in for this system for my new house which should be ready late December. 38k for this combo is very good. Though I must admit that the Denon 1509 can be purchased from Amazon.com in the USA for as low as USD 200 (which is only around INR 10k max). We Indians are paying more than double the price here for these big brands due to the import duty and 12.5% VAT.

Warm regards,
Venkat

Hi,

Have you made a choice/purchase yet? Or still deciding? I checked out the Onkyo 5100/5015 recently and was quite impressed with them. I personally have an entry level Onkyo 3100 and I am planning on the 5100/5105 myself as part of an upgrade. I am not really in favor of mixing and matching since I am not very well versed in HT Systems and am not really sure about the right way of doing things. I do however have good ears, being a music and movie aficionado since my childhood, and I can say for sure that Onkyo certainly rocks for movies and is not that bad either for music.

Not yet.... still stilll .... but if u are buying onkyo HTS5100 buy a pair tower speakers (wharfdale).....it will work well for music too.....

Ok. Thanks for the info. I was personally thinking of Audioengine (A5) for the music. Guess I will check out Wharfedale too.
