Optimia hd20 at $ 649.99 at US

Link not working... Plus its a refurbished unit... Anyway if anyone is getting from the US I thought the Epson 8100 for $599 was a better deal... On another forum I know a few members who called up epson after buying that projector & saying that the bulb is a bit dim(although their bulbs were fine)... Epson sent then a new bulb the next day... So they then had a spare bulb just in case their projector showed any signs of the bulb going out after 700-1000 hours(known prob in the 8100)... Optoma has a known DMD chip problem & a few members of this forum have faced this problems... So do take care while buying it...

I am one of those who had issues with Optoma HD66 that I bought from amazon. the DMD chip died on me after 13 months. I need to get the DMD chip replaced and the indian service service center gave me a quote of 23 K for that. Silly enough for me to decide to get another piece from US.

I am still not sure if I want to buy the same Optoma brand and the same projector again because of this DMD chip issue.

I have it ceiling mounted and so buying another brand or another projector would disturb the ceiling mount and the throw distance.

Suggestions please?

Kalyan Bhai it depends on ur budget... U can buy a epson 720p projector(850hd) here in India for less than 50k(closer to 45k actually)... That will come with 2 yr warranty from epson... As I suggested to u before do try & take a demo of that unit & if u lake it then that might be a good option for u... If u are interested in a 1080p projector than the epson 8350 for 80k is a good option... Another good option is the Mits HC4000...

PS another good 720p option is the viewsonic... It is for around 42k..

Sorry to note that. Did you try to understand how it failed? I am concerned about this issue since I have bought one recently.

Texas Instrument warranties the DLP/DMD chips for 5 years.
DLP News Release Details

Check with Optoma on this one. They should honor this because its Texas instrument who will pay for it.

@Santy
Before buying, you should have checked Amazon reviews from owners who have had it for more than an year. Its a common pattern that cheap Optoma projectors run great for an year and then start showing white spots because of DMD chip failure. This was one of the primary reasons I stayed away from it and bought Epson 705HD instead.
Anyway, I am sure there must be a lot of satisfied Optoma owners who never had a problem with their unit. So don't you worry and enjoy your PJ :-)

I could find one seller from Hongkong who is selling it for $189.

Try this link... This seller has pretty good reviews on aliexpress & you can get it for a lot cheaper... Plus I have never been charged custom duty on anything I ordered from aliexpress... BTW one more thing before u order... Do try to find a person who can install it for you... If u cant find anyone else u can try to install it urself... Better than buying a new projector...

EDIT
Found a better & cheaper source which I have posted on the next page or else u can go directly to the post http://www.hifivision.com/home-thea...5679-optimia-hd20-649-99-us-2.html#post361959

Thanks guys, I will bookmark these links but I hope I don't have to click them atleast for two years

Edit: but what I wanted to know is why it happens. Is it because of dust build up or thermal failure or any other reason. Because I believe any problem can be prevented or delayed.

I clinked on the link to chk again it is working fine... If you open up a HD66 & chk the dmd chip you will find that this is the correct chip... This model of DMD chip is used in several company's DLP projectors such as Benq Optoma & Acer etc... Rest assured if anyone has any doubts he can look at the DMD chip in his HD66 & chk if this is the correct one or not...

Actually GeorgeO that post was for Kalyan & others who have a HD66... Anyway georgeO I have to thank you for 1 thing... I went looking for which DMD chip goes into the HD20 & I came across some listings of this DMD1076-6039B chip on ebay... The good news for Kayan & others with HD66 who have a problem or may have a problem in the future is that I found a seller selling this chip for $45+$6 international shipping on ebay... Here is the link
DMD1076-6039B - DLP Chip - for Benq, NEC, Sharp, Mitsubishi (6038B) - Projectors | eBay

This is a genuine source for this DMD chip & he has sold atleast a 100 pieces of this DMD chips on ebay... And he is shipping to India for only $6... Now the only thing you need is someone who can change the DMD chip for us for 500-600 rupees... I know you could do it yourself but I think it would be better if a guy with some training & exp change it :)...

PS a Member named Ontherocks has sent me a PM but I dont know y but I dont seems to be able to reply to his PMs... Atleast the replies are not showing up in my sent messages... Just wanted to inform him of that...
