OK now this is embarassing but I didnt chk the model number correctly before posting the link(was too excited I guess)... The model number of the HD66 DMD chip is most probably 1280-6039B & not 1076-6039B as I posted... Now there are a couple of problems with this... 1st of all the seller has confirmed that this chip is confirmed used in the Optoma GT720... Wht he does not confirm is that it can be used in the HD66... You could always ask him if he has had any customer use this chip in a HD66... Anyway the best way to find out which is the correct chip is to open up ur projector & see which DMD chip is inside...
2nd Prob is that this seller has updated his listing of this chip saying that his source has stopped supplying him this chip... This is sad news as every other seller is selling this chip for more than double this guy... & he seems to only have 3 chips left... So my suggestion is this... Either open up the HD66 urself or take it to rajudhs in bangalore as soon as posible & chk the model number of the DMD chip... Post the number here & if it is the same chip as this guy is selling then order it asap... then when the DMD chip arrives rajudhs can help u install it... Hell u guys could also make a video of this dismatling the HD66 & installing the chip to make sure noone else in the future on this forum is fooled by optoma service center ppl into over paying for stuff & most ppl will be able to do it themselves...
This listing is the only listing that shows up when u search "HD66 dmd" on ebay... The reason I did not post this was the whole point of this research was to find a much cheaper alternative to the optoma service ppl here in India... If you look hard enough you might be able to find a optoma service center which would be willing to change the dmd chip for u for 13-15k... Then y would u buy a dmd chip from ebay for 10-11k , have it shipped to india & try installing it urself... In the solution I am suggesting it might be worth taking a risk after confirming that HD66 indeed has this particular DMD chip in it ... Coz the total risk would be in tune of 3-4k not more... totally worth it if you ask me...

I dont know how easy or difficult it is to open the Optoma HD66, but at the moment it is ceiling mounted. Will bring it down and see if I can open it up. Anyways, don't have warranty on it so that should not matter for me.
I could not find any videos on opening an Optoma HD66 projector.
Do any of you know of any sort of those videos?

Still thinking a few times if I want to open the projector myself. I will try to take the courage to get it down and disassemble it tonight.
EDIT - Took the plunge and ordered the 12180-6039B chip from eBay. Let me see if Im lucky.

I did open up my Optoma HD66 and the DMD chip in there is 1280-6038B. Looks like the one I ordered is going to work for me. Its going to take another 15 more days for me to receive the DMD chip. Will keep you all posted after I install the new DMD chip.

Thanks rajadeep. Your inputs and your suggestions actually drove me towards ordering the chip and I took that small risk for 4K rupees and picked up opening my projector and that was almost flawless except that I dropped my DMD chip on the floor when I was putting it back. Darn!!! that shouldnt matter as that chip is anyway dead now. I am going to use that dead DMD chip as my keychain. Kind of new feel for me 
Well I have always felt that a little risk & initiative from our part can save us a lot of trouble & money... About a year my MacBook's charger made a big pop sound & stopped working... Everyone I approached said that it can't be fixed & that I should just buy a new one(for Rs 5500)... One of the guys who knew me personally even laughed at me saying "itna roh raha kyun hai. Esse jaada toh tu ek din mien hi kama leta hai toh phir etni jhig jhig kyun"... But I felt it was not a matter of money but of principal... If something can be fixed then y should I be forced to buy a new one... Took a screwdriver & opened it up to find a capacitor that was blown... Got a replacement for it for Rs 125 & soldered it... Been working beautifully for a year now...
Now I know there is a chance that the dmd chip u install from eBay may or may not work ... If it does great you just saved yourself around Rs 10k... If it doesn't then atleast you can feel proud that u faced a problem head on instead to succumbing to the loot of some service centre ppl...

Do you really think that the DMD chip I ordered would still not work?
You know what, the Optoma service center head in Hyderabad gave me a quote of 24K for having to change the DMD chip. He even does not realize and know that there is a particular model number that each DMD has. He tells me that its just a DMD chip - no model number or so. He says it so confidently as if he is the master of all projectors.
He said he would charge 1000 Rs service charge for fixing the chip if I took the new chip to him.
I feel happy that I have opened it ahead of time before receiving the chip, because when the chip actually arrives, may be in 15 days, I would be very comfortable fixing it up in the projector, as this is my first experience opening up a projector. Thinking of setting up a local "Projector DMD chip replacement services - Free of cost" in my city. Darn the service center guys.

Got the chip today evening. Installed the chip and it works like a charm. All the white and black dots are gone. Yet to put back the projector to the ceiling mount.
I dont know how long the DMD chip is going to last but atleast I ordered it myself and replaced it myself.
Saved 20,000 rupees.

wow hats off for so much research and DIY . I would have never even thought about this route. Good initiative and hope people will benefit from this. One more advantaged of buying DLP i guess.

I finally mounted back the projector to the ceiling and enjoying my HD stuff in full glory.
I actually had a few hiccups putting back the projector onto the ceiling mount. The Optoma HD66 had 3 screws that the universal mount head is supposed to fit into and I couldnt get it right even after trying it umpteen number of times (tried both when I was non-drunk and drunk as well).
Finally, managed to get it right and the projector alignment to focus and align to the edges was a little sweaty thing. One jerk and the picture would move away by atleast 4 inches. Sweated it out and setup complete back to its original state.

I know what you mean about mounting the Optoma pj-I had a similar problem and decided that the only way to get it right(drunk or otherwise) was to get an sheet metal adapter plate. My projector mount needs to be aligned properly after changing my screen-it needs to be a little more to the rear and to the left.
A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
