Panasonic Plasma VT20 Review - So, is it a Kuro killer?

The review is pretty much on expected lines but a surprising fact is the exclusion of the "Floating black level" issue on their 2010 models something that is fast becoming as serious as the black level rise issue on AVS and many other forums

AFAIK "floating blacks" is only related to G20/25 series and it is very premature to associate rising black level to VT-20.

AFAIK not entirely true. It has been reported on the S2s and a few VT20s. Please have a look at these threads here.

Some people noticed it after a few days, some did not see it and some that compared the G20s and VTs say it is better than the G20s but definitely there
The owner Happy Nightmares reporting it in the thread above was one of the first ones to own the VT25 in the forum.

Ideally the VT25 has new phosphors and drive electronics which should make it perform better in this area.
But considering the "floating blacks" threads around the net i was expecting them to atleast mention it somewhere in the review, atleast as a comparison with the other panels (even if they did not notice it on the VT25)

Floating blacks are certainly worrisome to me but its strange that none of the pro reviewer ever mention it even David K. of cnet ( Panasonic Viera TC-P46G25 Flat-panel TV reviews - CNET Reviews ) or flatpanelshd. i almost made up my mind to get 50V20 considering that even after the black level rise the contrast will be at par with Sammy's. now i jus dont know what to do.

I am really surprised at the black level measurements. HDGuru and D-Nice have measured the blacks at 0.004 ftl and 0.0048 ftl respectively. But 0.006 cd/m2 is 0.002 ftl which when tripled would only mean .006 ftl which still makes it comforably the best non-Pioneer plasma out there beating the best LG at .012 ftl and even the starting range of the V10 and the lower end Panny plasmas like the S10 which start slightly higher

If their meters are detecting such very low levels of light it could mean their(HDTV's) measurements are more accurate.

Also I noticed a one liner on the absence of floating blacks in the review
But I 'd still wait for CNET to do their review and a few more months when owners would know where their 2010 Panny black levels are headed.

As far as Samsungs are concerned I think many people may end up finding the 2010 Samsungs only as good as last year's Samsungs or probably worse averaging at around .020 Ftl.

Gfreeman, here comes one more Panasonic VT20/VT25 3DTV review - FlatpanelsHD they too didnt notice floating blacks and measued 0,03 cd/m2 for BL kinda a confusing though. an italian reviewer has measured 0.006 cd/mq BL in V20. http://www.dday.it/prodotti/811/Panasonic-TXP42V20E.html#pagina-4

The black level has been corrected to .009cd/m2 which now seems a bit more realistic yet .001-.002 ftl away from other calibrators' measurements.
