Like you said, it's not entirely about perception. I do agree with that.
Lot of people feel klipsche RF speakers to be a bit brighter. You can even verify this in lot of AV discussion forums. Many reviews and owners have stated that the Klipsche RF speakers have more emphasis towards the hi-mid and high frequency range. (I don't think one has to understand the physics of the horn tweeters to realize how they sound). If klipsche rf speakers are not bright sounding, then why is there somuch discussion and debates going on in many forums including our forum, about this topic? I didn't mean to say they are bad, but they are different from speakers like monitor audio rx series speakers, which are bit warmer. Even the previous generation monitor audio's rs series speakers were considered a bit bright by many and so, the monitor audio company had corrected it in the current rx series speakers.
When I auditioned both RS and RX series speakers from monitor audio, the dealer said that most people who come for auditioning prefer the brighter RS series speakers after they listen to both the series . Even the dealer preferred the RS series, not to mention my friend who also preferred the rs series whilst I preferred the RX. This is why I said in my previous post that most Indians prefer bright sound. May be I like warm sound to brighter sound and I do love BASS.
There are audiences for both bright and warm sounding floor stands. So I believe that it is always good to audition the speaker before buying them.
But if the dealer has some knowledge about speakers and sound equipments, then it will be better. When I went to the Onkyo dealer to audition Elac and Energy speakers with Onkyo receivers, the demonstrator who didn't even know how to set the sub-woofer crossover kept on raising the crossover frequency to its max hoping that higher is better. The people working in ProFx said that AAC is the best audio format next to wave, and when I told him about FLAC format being superior to AAC, he only laughed at me. I can keep on going with such examples, which shows the sellers knowledge, but dont want to make my post any bigger. This is why we can't always come to a decision only by listening in a showroom, as most of the dealers in India know very little about audio.
