There is lot of negativity around 3D and I have seen lately most of the companies are not focusing on 3D, every less interest in last CES compare to previous one.

But I love 3D and I watch most of the movies in 3D. Not only that I love 3D, i only like passive 3D. I have LG 42LW6500 and its working quite well.

Now I want planning for dedicated media room with projector. I am not able to find a good 3D projector in reasonable cost (1.5L including screen).

What am I missing?

Note: I don't want to get on DIY like two projector setup with home painted screen.

As far as I have known and heard, there are no passive 3D home projectors. All the best known ones are using active 3D. Perhaps the passive 3D technology is difficult to adapt to projectors. If there is some passive 3D projector available, it will be very costly.

@spirovious no I am not interested in cheap glasses or the one don't require pairing. I do not want active shutter glass 3d. I live pure passive 3d like cinema hall or the one on LG TVs.

There was one passive 3D projector introduced by LG, 2 or 3 years back. It had dual 1080p chips along with dual light engines. Although it used an sxrd panel, its video performance was not so great. That's the only passive 3D projector.

Another option would be to go diy route, using dual stacked projectors, splitting HDMI and using color polarizers in front. Another big negative for passive 3D projection is that it needs a screen that maintains polarization, meaning a good silver screen that does not hotspot and change colors drastically. All this adds up to cost of such a system and makes it complicated. That's why all projector cos went for active projection with higher framerate.

Give it a try with active 3d projection. At that size, its worth it. Also, active 3d glasses have really become very lightweight, offer better sync and way better cross-talk performance. See if you can get an audition someplace.

We have only one life, enjoy as much you can.

+1. I too like passive 3D over active 3D but I am not biased against active 3D. To go to an extent that "I will not buy a 3D projector because it employs active 3D" would be sheer folly. My own TV has active 3D. It is not bad at all. As stated above, the new active 3D glasses are light. The only disadvantage is that they have to run on battery - rechargeable or coin-cells.

Some people may even argue that active 3D is full HD while passive is only half HD (not me though). See here: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57437344-221/active-3d-vs-passive-3d-whats-better/

Just4kix - passive 3D is indeed half resolution, cause left and right eye is alternating scanline. If you watch too close, you can see pixellines. There is no if's and but's about it. Although, if you sit somewhat far, you don't see them and not a problem at all. Passive glasses are so cheap and no batteries, so that's a plus for big gatherings.

Unfortunately, that's not so simple when it comes to 3D projection.

Manoj, I know and completely agree that passive 3D is half HD. I guess my comment was misleading - what I meant was that I really don't care because as you yourself put, at longer distances, the pixellation is not visible and persistence of vision renders half 3D of not much consequence.

Guys,

I am not religious about passive 3D. But I get headache in just 30 minutes with active glasses. I auditioned lot of TVs (not projectors thou) and even tried to watch one full movie at friends place. It just didn't work.

Now the only reason I am buying projector is to watch movies and if I cannot watch in 3D then it will waste of money.

Infact, I zeroed in on Epson 8100 after reading good reviews on this forum and was planning to try it out (I still may) but 3D is big blocker. I really enjoyed watching "Rise of Guardian" and "Wreck it Ralph" over the weekend in 3D. Can't give up on this fun :(.

Oh! BTW I am not saying I will not buy one even. I will just have to wait till passive 3D becomes affordable. That's what i did with the TV set.
