Passive 3D vs. glassless 3D

Will glassless 3D TV replace the passive 3D TV?

Toshiba already has its VL20 Glassless 3D TV available in the market but haven't heard any rave reviews about it. If anything, I think that passive 3D share will be more concentrated with Sony jumping on the bandwagon after LG. Very soon, Samsung and Panasonic will also take the same route.

Glassless 3D is the next step in 3D evolution - till then, make do with passive 3D glasses. What I mean is that though glassless 3D TVs are out in the market, the viewing experience on time is rather limited - since very specific seating arrangement is needed. The 3D performance also needs a lot of improvement - compared that of its passive 3D TV or even active 3D TV cousins.

Actually, glassless 3D will have to succeed if 3D TVs have to remain viable - since the biggest issue of 3D baiters is the uncomfortable 3D glasses. Granted, passive 3D glasses are lighter and more comfortable, yet, you still have to wear them.

I am sure all the TV makers - LG, Samsung, Panasonic, Sony etc - must be working hard to develop a credible and "cheaper" version of glassless 3D TVs. Till then, keep racking your brains in the "active 3D TV vs. passive 3D TV" debate!

Forget about 3D in tvs thesedays 7 inch tablets are offering 3D,HD etc soon a day will come where people carry 3d glasses alongwith them in their pocket and forget their spectacles

Passive 3D TVs, with passive 3D glasses are already here - and sell quite well commercially. On the other hand, the glassless 3D TVs, though out in the market, still need to iron out a lot of creases before they can pose a credible alternative to passive 3D TVs.

Glassless 3D or autostereoscopic 3D is rather expensive and inadequate as far as I am concerned. It would take a lot more to create displays than synchronize 3D signals, which are easily perceptive by the human brain so it's a no go for me at this time. Passive 3D on the other hand is a technology which has steadily improved in the past couple of years and is now the preferred way of viewing 3D at both home and in the theatres. In short, you cannot altogether compete with a technology which is mainstream to the hilt.
