Peerless India 3" full range driver

Hi,
The same drivers (philips) are avalable by the name of 'pulse'. Same cost as you mentioned. The box gives the FR Curve. I will try and find out if I have the box. ( i have 3 drivers but cant remember the box). If i get it, i will click a picture and post it.
I have used the driver on open baffle. I had to supplement it with a tweeter(crossed at 4khz and a woof below 200hz)
The frequ range claimed is 55hz to 22khz.

what is ur listening impression? can u give details of xover network, woofer and tweeter which u used. these drivers look like good for experimenting to learn speaker design.

I Was very happy with the product except for the size of speakers. It was 2.5 way design. Full range driver crossed at 4khz to tweeter. Both full range and tweeter of Philips. Cross over network readymade by Ahuja radios. The baffle width was 20"with roll off expected at 200hz. So the lower frequ were supported by a woofer with low pass filter at 250hz. The low pass filter was again by Ahuja.
The woofer was a locally made driver. I tried woofer on open baffle first but bass was poor. So enclosed it in a box with intention to use it as infinite baffle. Worked well. Now I am in search of a good woofer with known TS Parameters at decent cost so that i can use the same design in a more scientific way(better box dimensions).
Visit ahuja radios site once. It has a lot of drivers but all are 12" or larger. They have some choice for readymade xo and piezo tweeter as well.
By the way I could not find the box.

above list convinces me that peerless drivers are the way to go. any idea approx. what would be the size of the exo-linear TL box you mentioned? how can we proceed with the design and building the box?

There are 2 choice of the dimension of the speaker with the exo-linear TL design,

Design 1: Straight Line Transmission line

(External Dimenstion with 12 mm thich MDF board)

Height = 23", Width = 5", Depth = 6" - Driver mounted at top with the terminus cross-section area = 20 sq.inch at the bottom.. Good quality Racron polyster fiber cotton damping = 300grams (Most important is the damping, brand Racron from Reliance - more expensive the Racron the better the quality. It cost around Rs.200/- per kg in Mumbai). Use a zobel compensator along with a Baffle Step corrector for more smooth mid-range and mellow highs.)

Design 2: Folded transmission line

Height = 12", Width = 5", Depth = 11.5" . Area of the pipe is 20 sq.inch and in the center there is a partition at 5.5" of width= 4" and height 6.5". Damping 300 grams Racron polyester fiber cotton.

The terminus will be on the top of the speaker in the 2nd folded line with cross-section area of 20 sq. inch.

Please mention your email ID and i will mail you the diagrams of the enclosure and compensator circuits for you.

Cheers,

bumping an old thread,

what happend to the climax ? which driver was used ?

Regards
Harsha

I have made this TL now with some modifications to this design and will be demonstrating them in the HT meet at Mumbai on 15th April. Also have planned a demo at one FM's home at Mumbai this Sunday. You can also check up with Vinay and Denom about the outcome.

Cheers, Hari.

hari... i have been told about your excellent work by another FM... mighty impressed. hoping you could help me out a little here too... I have ordered two peerless 3" full range 4 ohm drivers W3-LK-76 which I want to power using the audioengine a2 stereo plate amp as the woofer and tweeter of one channel blew up. would really appreciate some help with the TL design for this project. i can make two cabs for each driver and install the plate in one with wire running to second cab or make a single horizontal cabinet for both drivers mirrored with an internal partition with the plate mounted in the centre at the back... what do you think?

Thanks, Hari, for all we've learnt from you

Given your evident knowledge and extensive experience could you help me upgrade a pair of monitor speakers, please?
They are large vintage Japanese Hitachi floor standing, with 10" - 4" - 1" dome tweeter in 31" (H) x 14" (W) x 11.5" (D) enclosures. It is clear that the magnets just do not anymore have the ability to produce the dynamic range my Pioneer Elite A/B 7.1 amplifier with 100w/ch RMS gives out.

A bookshelf pair I've built using Peerless India sko130 8ohms 5.25" woofers with sr10dt tweeters give me very satisfactory sound (Beginner's Luck !!???!!!). With critical guidance from Sandip Devasthali, Mumbai - my thanks to him.

With the Hitachi monitors, I get well defined, though not HT thumping bass. Which I don't want in any case as I prefer clear and smooth bass.
But the midrange and the treble need some wise person's assistance !
May I hope that you would be so kind, as to help a fellow audio enthusiast??!!(retired, and 70 - with one ear still very good!!!)

Thanks for your patience, in going through this.
And for all the knowledge you've shared all along. Cheers.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
