Philips wants to train your ears

I'll have to give it another go tomorrow...but I'm gonna do it. You know why? Because it's never too late to improve ones listening skills!
Very interesting. I'll give it a try, as I'm sure there will be something to be learnt. Any reservations I may have is based on my ears entirely and nothing else. I've given up pretensions to accurate hearing, because I have an audiogram that says I don't have it. But I'll go on enjoying the music, and at least taking some interest in the theory.

One of the commentators says, "but noticing changes to anything above 12kHz was my biggest challenge." I can't hear anything above 12k without boosting it with EQ.

The only thing I can claim is that I found out where and how much my hearing is lacking. It is always worth taking such challenges.

Thanks for sharing. I will surely go through the training.

Having seen veterans from the forum easily discerning even subtle differences in audio reproduction, I had always wanted to become a better listener.

I am glad that critically listening to music in the last few years have raised my music listening skills. Many a female vocal has been harmed along the way, and many a male vocal too have suffered at my hands :lol::lol:, but my point is - it can definitely be learned.

Thanks for the link... Did the first two exercises... Finally i know what the hell "sounding bright" is ^_^

what sort of audio equipment does this need? Will sub 10K setups be enough?
EDIT: Reached till Silver Ears on my 500 Rs earphones :D Coloration and stereo width were tough though

The first exercise is easy. The intro to the second promises much harder stuff, so I am probably heading for cloth ears level already :o!

'Silver Ears' completed :D ... now moving through Golden ear tests. I found the the MP3 Artifact and reverberation test were hard to complete. It took me almost 90 minutes to complete those 2 tests, rests were quite easy. But to make the golden ear tests easy one need (of course other than own ear) high end headphone with decent card or dac. I was using 'Etymotic ER-4P' for those sessions. Let see what happen next.....

Golden Ear- Timbre Stage: Lots of training, trial & error . Listener have to identify the change in specific frequency out of 18 types of frequencies. Too tough to identify each one. Mera to phat gaya yaaro!(pardon me) Took over 4 hours, but at the end completed it:D:D.

At last......... "Golden Ear" Achieved:ohyeah:. But one thing I can tell for sure, very careful practice sessions are necessary to retain this achievement. And many thanks for sharing the link, there are so much to learn..................

I am at the same spot. I was wondering what's the importance of this test. I am dealing with a broken headphone. Resting the right ear cup on my right shoulder and at the same time using my right hand to move the mouse.

Also I have memory probs, almost like blank spot moments where I don't remember what I was about do or say. Remembering 18 different fqs seems too much to handle at the moment.

Till this level it was a breeze and fun. I would like to know what does 'Detail' and the rest of the tests have to offer. Maybe some other time. Congrats on your 'Golden Ear' achievement :D
