I have a (1992) pioneer music system (Which has a laser disc & a cd player) the model is called CL-J350. Along with this came two book shelves they are (S-J350). The player has now gone kaput & i'm finding it hard to get it repaired here in blore.

What I would like to know from you all is:

1) Can I use this BS to connect to my CowonS9 Player / ipod + Topping TP30
2) What connections do I have to use to get this working
3) What wires / cables do I have to buy?

Bottom line how do I make this work...
BS

Specs of the BS are:
1) Woofer: 16CM (Cone Type)
2) Midrange: 6.6 cm (Cone Type)
3) Tweeter: 2CM (Dome Type)

Nominal Imp: 8Ohm
Freq Resp: 36 - 20,000 Hz
Maximun Input: 100W

Kindy let me know your thoughts appreciate your time

PS: Mods I tried to serch to putforth my query in an exisiting thread but couldnt, you can move it if there is a relevant thread.

crn, Do you know the output/wattage of your Pioneer cdp-amp music system?
Because the Topping is low on power, it will work well with speakers which do not a present a difficult load and are easy to drive(having high sensitivity around 90db).

I assume you are choosing the Tp30 over the tp20 because the former has usb dac facility which you will be using with your computer. Else the TP20 is deemed to be the better choice, sonically. Please refer to MBRs input on the same.

AS for connections, you will need a mini stereo to RCA cable or 'ipod cable'. The mini stereo/3.5mm jack plugs in to your ipod/cowon while the red and white rca plugs at the other end go into the rear input terminals of the Topping.
Next you need two sets of suitable lengths of speaker wire to connect the Topping amp to the speakers.
In case you want to use the dac section of tp30 with your pc, get a usb cable as well.

@ iaudio: Thanks for your detailed info.

Specs of Amp:

Continuous Avg Power output is 33 Watts / Channel, min, at 8 ohms from 70 Hz to 20,000 hz with no more than 0.9% total harmonic distortion.

Continuous Power Output (RMS) is 50W + 50 W
(1khz, T.H.D. 10%, 8 Ohm)
Peak Music Power: 750 W

Hope this helps!

My brother got pioneer BS(96 model 25 cd changer model) and he got the pioneer A204 amp from ritchie street chennai. But the problem is the amp rating is 45W rms, when you increase volume by 12 o clock position , the speaker get distorted. So my advice go for amp which is more than 100W rms to driver your pioneer BS.
Iaudio already explained the steps to connect ipod to amp/spk. follow that.

You can look at the Topping or pick up a used integrated with 40wpc or more(imo, thats more than enough to get tolerable loudness with decently sensitive speakers! After that, its probably an explanation letter to the residents association that you are looking at!)
Check our classifieds, theres a Nad 302 on sale. Or else contact hifipal4all.

I guess i would stick to the topping tp30 as I have ordered thru ebay. Do you think I can use these speakers which I have?

Try the speakers and feel the music, thats the best way to decide. Your is a 8 ohm speaker, should be easy to drive. Do you have any clue on the sensitivity of the speaker?

Btw: Topping TP30 comes with an excellent USB cable as part of the package. So your laptop to TP30 is taken care of if you are using Laptop as source. if you use laptop ensure you use foobar with WASAPI drivers. Search the forum we have any info on that.

MBR: I tried to get the sensitivity of the speakers but without much luck, as these are old, I'm unable to find the specs on the net as well.

I guess for the WASAPI driver you need to have Vista as OS, mine is an Acer 5542 with win7.

Hi Crn12,

Kittu

Thanks Kittu1977 for your generous offer, I'm traveling these days & should be back next week. Lets try to catch up then.

I received my Topping TP 30 yday in great condition, it was packed v well. I dd not pay any customs got it delivered right to my door.

I bought these cables:

1) RCA Cable: Bandridge : Rs Approx 580 From Reliance Digital
2) Speaker Wires: Rs 50/ Mtr, DAC, 16 Gauge.
3) Banana Plugs: Rs 950 (DAC) Gold plated For 2 Pairs

All is fixed & is working well. The sound from the BS's are pretty good will post more details on that after some listening in..

PS: What I noticed was my Cowon S9 didn't do well had to increase the Vol upt o 34 in the player, however my wife's old i Pod Nano did wonders (I have no clue how ??).

Source from the laptop was the best :)
