Hi
I am here with attaching pics of how i have placed my YHT-299 HT. With the limitations of the room and not wanting to change the existing TV placement, I have placed the speakers in best manner possible.

Still I would like to know the views of the experts. with the limitation, I cannot further widen the distance between the front speakers, the left surround speaker is little down compared to the right speaker as there is a grill above it.

Is there any significant error I have done that you see. Please suggest

Thanks

please see if above image would help. The box in orange is the place where the HT/TV is placed. speakers placement are clear from the initial images posted.

5.1 Speaker Setup GuideTry to follow this guide. Surround setup is slightly different from stereo because the centre channel compensates for the hollow in the centre. Use the guide and adjust accordingly with your room limitation.

First things first Murlidhar, whatever u do, always keep Subwoofer on the floor bro, never in a wooden cabinet...or with their respective and specific floorpads. Makes Big difference.

For the Surrounds lining issue, at the minimum buy some cheap floor stands. they both have to be in line with your ears.

Just that simple combo between surrounds in line and subwoofer on floor will make all the difference in the world. Try it.

I discovered accidentally that the bass was better integrated when placed on a wooden bench. I emailed the manufacturer about the rule about vertical placement and was informed that since it wasn't practical for placement on a cabinet or stool but the effect is similar as moving the speakers on the plains of the floor.

It is okay to place them on a bench as long they are adequately firm and doesn't rattle. Mine is actually placed on a wooden bench.

yes exactly that is my point. Form the pics i feel it is bound to rattle murlidhar's woooden cabinet. Again i cud be wrong but thats what i feel- why take chances.

thanks for all the suggestion. I am planning to replace the front speakers with floor standing one's. I will have to keep experimenting with different positions to set it right. I agree, the left surround has to be adjusted towards the right one using a floor standing stand, let me look out for that one as well.

The front left and right speakers are placed too high up, so bring them lower. The right surround speaker's level looks ok, but get a stand for the left surround speaker.

Get a pair of speaker stands and use one stand for the left surround speaker and right speaker can remain wall mounted, just make sure that they are in the same level. Use the other stand for the front left speaker and wall mount the front right speaker. Have look at the pic below to get an idea of my suggested placement for your front speakers -

Also move the front center speaker to the edge of the rack. The subwoofer might perform better if placed on the floor, place it on the floor and check if there is any audible difference. If there is none, then let it stay where it is now.

Nishanth it's cool and thanks for taking the hard work of editing the pic.

I am planning to replace the front speakers with floor standing speakers (pioneer sf-52) and i hope to place them exactly at the place you have drawn for front speakers.

Yes, while watching movies, I move the center to the front (edge) and then place it back during music times.

I would need to get one stand for left surround speaker. thanks for the suggestion.

with regard to woofer, I did try to keep it on the floor for first couple of days, then I kept it back inside as the space were not utilized. So far with my medium level of volume, I didn't find the rack rattling. However it's a good suggestion I got here, and I would think about it if I feel it more.

All said and done, I am little afraid about the floor standing speakers I plan to get as it would be standing against my 11 month old kid, who has now learnt to stand with any support she gets. I am not sure how strong the andrew jones floor standing speaker would be! If it proves to be not so strong against my kid, then probably, I would keep the right floor standing speaker as it is (current place where you have wall mounted my existing speaker) and the left floor standing speaker can go to the extreme left (hidden in the picture) where i have shoe rack ( I can place it on top of the shoe rack). I would have to wait & watch how my kid thinks about these. I will also get my wife consulted on this

my new speaker set up. replaced small fronts with FS

IMG_20141016_080747.jpg

new center is too big to fit inside the space near the AVR. Only option I have to remove the SW and keep the big center next to AVR and keep the SW near the front right. But at the end, I find this OK as of now, as I could fit them in the slots available.

the Fronts are also not aligned, as you can see, one is little front and the other is kept little back. I may keep the one one little front while watching movie if required.

my new questions:

1) does the FS needs more space between them than this current set up? If so, I can move the left FS to extreme left which would say 9 to 10 ft away on top of the shoe rack.

2) If i do the first, the left FS would be on little higher side than the right FS. to keep the balance, I can keep the SW below and keep the FS on top of it, so that both the fronts can be in same equal height .This would also help me to bring the center down where the SW is currently kept. By doing so only question would be, can a FS be placed on top of SW?

Regards

Option 1. Pull up the left speaker in line with the right and put the centre on a sturdy shelf above the TV. You can have two vertical supports from top if needed.

Option 2. Turn the TV a bit and have a diagonal sitting. The front speakers will automatically get aligned. Maybe you will then have some space for the centre in front of the TV.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
