Hi Friends,

Been almost 15 months that I am using my Yamaha 473 with my existing Sony speakers without hitch and enjoying every bit of music and movies (50:50)

But I think now it's time for me to upgrade the speakers. My brother stays in UK and I am lanning for a pair of wharfedale Diamond BS 10.1 or 10.2. Getting a deal in amazon which is at GBP 93 which I feel is a steal deal(http://www.amazon.co.uk/WHARFEDALE-...39397&sr=1-2&keywords=wharfedale+diamond+10.2). My parents are travelling to UK and coming back in the end of July so they can easily carry along in their return journey. Along with a pair of BS, I am also planning for a centre speakers of wharfedale only.

I need your suggestions on above. If you have any other brands in your mind then please let me know.

I was planning for DX-1HCP but it would be problamatic for my parents to carry this 5.1 package along.

I've only heard a 4 series Yamaha once, but have had extensive experience with the 3 series. As a big yamaha fan, I can tell you that there is a significant step up in sound quality once you move to 6xx and above.

this may not be audible now, but it will be once you get better speakers.

true story - A forum member had come to my house to audition a pair of speakers with his yamaha 471 (or 469 don't remember) and i remember the speakers sounding (to me) pretty mediocre. We switched the amp; the person purchased those speakers on the spot and changed his amp within a week. just something to keep in mind :-)

Do look at Richer Sounds and some of the other UK dealers' sites too.

Are you used to air travel? Forgive me if you are (and know that your parents will have little of their own stuff to carry) but I would not take for granted that this is easy. Whilst it would help if your parents are travelling first or business class (or even premium economy, one some airlines, gets you increased baggage as well as a little more legroom) there is not much flexibility on baggage allowance these days, and the old charm at the checkin doesn't seem to work like it did (or maybe it's just that I've grown old :o ).

You must research the packed weight and size of the speakers you plan to buy, check if the airline restricts the number of pieces that can be carried (they probably do) and even,if necessary, measure the inside of your parent's suitcases.

When you've conluded that all that is going to be ok, don't forget to check out and instruct them in getting the VAT reclaim on their way back. It'll be a double whammy if you don't do that and do end up having to pay duty coming into India.

Again, forgive me if you have already done all this.

My elder brother is working for the same airlines they are travelling so baggage is not a problem as it is a manageable issue. My question is am right in making these choices. I have checked out on amazon.co.uk that Wharfedale DX-1HCP's weight is 23 kgs. only problem I would be facing is warranty issue.

Do we have any other brand in the same price, may be better sounding.

You may consider Tannoy Mercury series around the same price, Even Mission Speakers MX/M series....

If you have no issues with baggage, plz plan on getting fronts & center speaker... Very rarely there is an issue with new speaker... So dont worry abt the warranty...
