Hi,

I am planning to buy a receiver from US and planning to use it with step down transformer. My room size is 16 ft x 17 ft and it is a living room.

My Movie:Music preference is 50:50. My preferences are good sound quality, punchy bass, more power and less problematic than more features.

I am confused between Pioneer vsx-1123 or Yamaha rx-v675. I can get these around $400(my budget). I also like the sound of Harmon Kardon receivers. But trying to avoid it as I am reading in some reviews that HK receivers may have some technical problems. I am also ready to go for a 5.1 receiver but it should have more power to fill my large room.

Which of these would be suitable for me, considering my preferences and my room size?

I am planning to use it in US for next 4 months with a pair of bookshelf speakers and then take it to India. Suggestions for bookshelf speakers are also welcome(budget $250-$300). I would buy Floor standers and other speakers in India.

Thanks
Siva

Here are some links to get Dual Voltage systems...

Audio Video Receivers | 220volts Audio Video Receivers | 240 volts Aud

Yamaha | Denon | Dual Voltage Audio Video receivers, World Wide voltage 110-220 volt AV Amps

220-Electronics.com | International Relocation Electronics Specialists

When you buy a 110V AVR in US & when you come back to India, you will need to spend an other 3K for the step down transformer...I would suggest you invest in a dual voltage system, which will give you the flexibility of using in US/ India...

Thanks elangoas!

I thought of going for dual voltage initially! But dual voltage sellers have higher price(Yamaha rx-v673 is quoted around $600).. so i feel buying from india is better than buying from them..

so spending 3k on a step down transformer and buying the 110 v should be a cheaper option! can i get good transformers online in india or should i buy it from US

Which of the above receivers would you suggest considering my preferences?

I think you should combine your speaker budget too with AVR & get a good mid-range AVR....

Yamaha RX-V773 110-240 Volts Receiver 110 - 220 240 volts

I know the 675 sells for around 50K + in india.. So 773series, though older would be even higher in India.. somewhere approx 65K odd...

Denon AVR-2313 220 Volt AV Receiver

The last known price for this AVR is around 75K, though a discontinued model, i think has some good features....

I am not sure, may be if you go there & pick it in the store, may be you would get a fair price....(or) it doesn't work that way in US?

If you still think prices are higher for he dual voltage AVR's, come to india & pick the Pioneer AVR's.. They are the only modestly priced AVR's in India....

Thanks, elangoas!

hv ordered the pioneer vsx-1123 from amazon.... is 1500W step down transformed enough for my receiver or should i go for 2000W?

also thinking whether i can get the transformer locally in india, so that i can have warranty..

Congrats on your AVR....Pioneer VSX 1123 is rated around 550W power consumption... So Even a 1000W step down converter should do....There are some well known brands here, but i don't recollect the names...

When you are ready to risk & get the AVR without warranty, why worry abt converter...If you feel the weight would be of disadvantage (Baggage), you can pick them in India...

Hi All

I have brought my receiver to India. Looking for speakers for my receivers. Already have a JBL ES30BK bookshelves for Rear.

Now looking for Front floor standers, Center and Sub. My budget would be 80k to 90k. Please suggest suitable speakers for my Pioneer VSX-1123 receiver. I have Boston Acoustics A360 floor standers in mind. Is this a good choice?

Have purchased a Maxine 1000W stepdown transformer. Would I need a Voltage stabilizer for it or the Transformer would be sufficient? Please advice.

Thanks Elangoas!

I had a chance to listen to Monitor audio M6 yesterday. I liked it. But I felt it to be a little brighter. Does anyone own it? Is it a better choice compared to Boston A360?

The dealer quoted 95k for MA M6 Floor Standers, Center and Sub(not sure of the models of Sub and center). Is this a good price?
