Hi everybody, I am planning to buy a pair of tower speakers for my amp (Marantz SR 5200). Given my budget, I shortlisted two speakers Sonodyne Sonus V3 2504 and Polk Audio TSX 330 (upgrade from TSI 300). The latter is about 6K costlier, but I wouldn't mind that if it stands the test of time. Would you have any suggestions as to which one would be a better choice. I was also wondering if Sonodyne Avant 150 is a better pair of speakers (although bookshelf) which can later be supported with a sub woofer. I have not used any of these brands before, so am looking forward to any suggestion or recommendation from you. I am based out of Kolkata, so far I have visited Pro FX and Sonodyne stores, am I missing any other retailer who you think can provide more options at a budget like 25K. Thank you in advance..

This will be for pure stereo listening, I suppose. Then skip both and look for different options. At that budget look for a pair of bookshelf speakers rather than floorstanders. MS Aviano 2, MA BX2 etc.

Visit SKS, Harmony for great stereo setups. Carry your amp with you and get demo and choose.

I'm not very sure which one (Polk or Sonodyne) will be better, but in case you decide to go for Sonodyne and if there's no discount in Calcutta, purchase it from hifimart. There's a flat 10% discount on Sonodyne products in hifimart.

I had read a lot of discussions on this forum about good reviews of sonodyne being equal quality at a better price. Just search this blog

If budget is a constraint - it is better to check out more of Sonodye because with the fluctuation of the rupee it will place bigger dent to your pocket with imported stuff.

If budget is not a constraint please ignore this advise.

Audition both, lot of changes between TSi 300 and TSx 330. Great tower speakers for stereo setup at a real value for money pricing. You will get 12-15% off on the MRP prices from dealers for Polk. I have TSx 330T.

I have owned the Marantz Receiver SR 5200 for more than 2 years....It doesn't have much power to drive the FS.....

Sonodyne Avant 150 is a very good speaker & matches very well with Marantz SR5200.. I have used this combo (Marantz SR 5200 + Avant LCR 250) for about 2 weeks and was really impressed...

If you like your stereo to be 2.1, then Avant 150 BS + any a decent subwoofer would be very good....

If your stereo listening is 2.0, you may consider the Sonus 1501 BS as well...

I kind of had the same doubt Polk TSX Vs Sonus 2605..

Polk TSx 330T is a 3 driver & 3 way speaker... Sonodyne Sonus 2605 is a 4 driver & 3 way speaker...

TSx 440T is comparable model to Sonodyne Sonus 2605 per each driver though not by series.... By series RTi A7 is the actual comparable model to Sonodyne Sonus 2605...

What is the cost of Polk TSx 440T before & after discount ?

That is a question many of us have, an audition will help, but highly doubt if it can be compared to RTi series. The number of drivers on a tower also is not always an indicator of sound quality but it means it can work on higher wattage.

How does TSX330 sound in the bass department. I am looking for tight deep bass in stereo in a 15*10 room. Which ampilfier would be best for a warm oriented sound though mid range should be clear.what is the best price in Bengaluru so that i can compare in delhi?

Polk you will get for around Rs. 22000 in Bangalore for a pair. Sonodyne will be around 29000. Tight bass, you will need a subwoofer but the towers themselves have adequate bass. Polks, you have a color choice of black or cherry.

I am using a Denon and they pair well with polks.

RMCWS, I wish I could buy from Hifimart, but I have a gift card to use before the end of the month :(

thanx. Bass & treble Delhi quoted 28000 for TSX330, pre bargaining. pretty big difference in price compared to Bengaluru.

But, between 3 drivers and 4 drivers the difference may be for higher wattage or more sound especially if they are of the same size and parameters.

My understanding is, 2 drivers share the same frequencies before it is passed to mid-range driver....So they work in tandem to produce optimum performance.

Most of the Floor standers in any brand any series have 4 driver config....Itz almost like a universal standard...

Only few FS have more than 4 drivers, which obviously would need hefty amplifier power

Sonodyne and Philips India have fooled us from decades before the invasion of foreign brands into India officially. American & European speakers are much much ahead in terms of overall technology, r&d & innovations. Taking consideration on tonal quality and uncolored sonic purity, ambiance, realistic lifelike reproduction ....... Each and ever aspect, is a result of dedication and effortless commitment to produce these astonishing and outstanding marvels that speak for themselves. Starting from early seventies till today they have left a mark, an identity that is acclaimed world wide.
As for eg. AR, BOSE, JBL, EV, TANNOY, KEF, POLK, JAMO, WARFEDALE, CELESTION, LEAK, BOSTON....... and many more .....
Leaving apart the hi-end brands like... Martin Logan , B&W, JM LABS, GENESIS ........
Where does Sonodyne stands here. Uses crap Peerless India drivers and earlier Bolton.
Do they have any such model of speakers that had set an imprint into the hi-fi world of excellence and compete with these legendary brands.
Do not hesitate in choosing POLK.

Please go over the net and you will find how well SONODYNE active speakers are making waves internationally.
I had the same doubt between Sonus 2605 and polk tsi 400.Playing with the same CD, the sonus's were much more refined and polks were bit brighter as well as had less bass output.
Immediately bought them.

Would have been a perfect replica of my thoughts except the word "BOSE" :)

I have used Sonodyne for more than 12-13 years. Used many of their "hit" models. I used to swear by their quality until I came across different hi-fi brands. And I realized that they are really BAD. Then I came across many more "History" of their product and all that ...

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
