Polk audio vs Sonodyne

I guessed it ... :clapping:

So the point is, you need a high end source and no MP3 files and high end stereo amplifier and no audio video receiver and good room acoustics and this and that and those and ... and ...

Every speaker to perform optimally needs a good source...(Audio CD's, FLAC, WAV files from good media player)...

BTW NAD C326 BEE is not a high end stereo amplifier & NAD C 541 is not a high end CD player... All you need is a good Audio CD...:ohyeah:

BTW there is another way of looking @ it... If you played MP3 CD on these speakers & if you were not convinced, it means the speaker is capable of exposing audio quality

Liked your sense of humor ...

I sincerely hope this doesn't turn out to be a bud slinging match between you and me and that is not at all my intention. I value your purchase decision, owning a Sonodyne was also a childhood dream for me.

Elangoas, you are a high end guy man, A $550 or Rs. 35750 stereo amp and you call that is not high end enough? How many can afford that as a stereo setup?

If some one can afford that high end amp, then why settle for Sonodyne? That is the same reason Sonodyne is neglected by most, also there is no Snob value attached with the brand anymore.

If you call NAD C326 as High end, what would you call an amplfier from ARCAM (or) Audio lab (or) Krell as :ohyeah:

Juz because a product is expensive doesn't mean it is high end....

Let me give you this example, but don't want to sound like a Salesman here...

I hope everyone is aware that anything imported to india attracts roughly 35 - 40% duty + 12.5 % service tax + others (Shipping cost and dealer %)

So you end up paying more than 50% than the product made locally.... & i got very conscious about this off late...

When i brought the NAD Amplifier 3 years back, i wasn't much aware of all these things...I had paid 28.5K for the amplifier, roughly 15K is what the product is worth it excluding Duty & other stuff...

I tried to get the Sonodyne Stereo Pre + power combo even used which is powerful than NAD C326.. But never got it.. It was 28K then.... Else i would have never taken NAD..

If i was working for Sonodyne, i would have ripped the market here in India atleast for Home Audio products considering the disparity in the pricing...

Not really, it is when you import as an individual, you end up paying the sum as you mentioned. When you are a dealer, you import a container. You show the value of the item as less as most of the brands now have their manufacturing outsourced to China. Here the dealer or wholesale importer makes a cut and then the price is then extrapolated.

I remember a cousin who is into import export business telling me that, you can get anything from China for 16Lacs Rs a container as shipping charges, how much you can stuff inside and what you stuff doesn't really matter.

So it is distributor who prices it....So someone is taking more money than they should...:ohyeah:

I guess the majority of the AVR sold in India take the same route of the container what you told.... Why are the prices so exorbitant here?

There are several replies to my post. I don't want to single out anyone.

It is true that SONODYNE guys are not serious in selling their Home audio products.Else, they would not have phased out their mind blowing Pre-Power combo, which I had auditioned in their service centre once.
At that moment Iwas hell bent for HT and missed the train.

One question, was my method of choosing speakers faulty by any means?
I am saying this because at SONODYNE Listening room at south city mall when the same CD was played by CA CD player and a 2 ch Yamaha amp, it definitely sounded better over 2605.It was, then I realised how a source can alter sound.

Then I decided to audition only as I would play it at home.Use a DVDp and a AVR. That I felt gave a equal platform for all speakers(JAMO S series,KLIPSCH F1,PSB T series,ELAC, POLK Tsi 400/300), I auditioned.

I am not a SONODYNE freak.I did not buy SIA 320 amp after auditioning it at Mani square.
Earphones are not good either.Service poor. Infact horrible.
But i still stand by 2605.
