Welcome to HFV. What is your budget for speakers & amplifier ?

@saifucmp

Considering your room size, why dont you do invest in yamaha YHT 296 or Onkyo 3500. You dont need to buy surround speakers later and both are fantastic HTiB.

Thanks all for your reply.
I have seen the opinions from diffrent peoples from this forum, the speakers coming with HTiB are not good..So I decided to go for with AVR and 2 Bookshelf speakers..Due to the space constraits I am not interested in Floorstander..I have read good reviews for Denon and ONKYO..

This shows that you done some good reading here. Great. 25 - 35K is good money but not sufficient to get a new receiver and BS speaker for 35K Max. Because new HT & Hi-fi products cost a bomb in India .

Never mind. I would suggest you take the used route if you are fine with it. An used receiver (Non HDMI model) for 10K, you can easily get from this forum which allows you to spend 25K on speakers.

An important point to note, afford for the speaker which has high efficiency/sensitivity within your budget. this means a receiver with modest power can handle the speaker very easily.

You can look @ Sonodyne (From India) Sonus range 1501 BS (10K) + center channel C2401 (6K) + Sonus rears dipole (10K). So you complete 5.0 Setup. As & when your budget allows, get the subwoofer from Sonodyne (or) any any brand of your liking. Once you have done with speakers, upgrade the receiver at the last.

It will be very hard for you to get a 5.0 setup for Approx 25K from other brands. What i am suggesting you is an EVFM (extreme value for money).

Thanks you all for reply. I am from kerala and i am not sure i can audition a used one from here kerala, that is why I am not interested in used one. So I am willing to spend 45k for one AVR and 2 speakers, later I will upgrade. Mostly I plan to set up a sound system is for watching movies with clarity and precision not looking for big volume.
I am looking for your more advice..I am a newbie in this category.

Do you have a BD/DVD player? didn't find in your first post.

As per my knowledge Videocon HD is not broadcasting Dolby 5.1 audio. Hence AVR+5.1 Speaker setup will be useful only for your BD/DVD Player.

Your selection is OK to start with. I would say Polk RTi A1 will be better option. I think Denon 1312 is being replaced with 1513.

Polk and Onkyo at my place are sounding absolutely fantastic, i would suggest to increase the budget a bit and get A3 instead.

I am using the combination of Polk TSi200 and Denon 1611 for more than a year now. Excellent combo given the price. The speakers are a bit forward, but that works for me, especially with vocals. Those 2 speakers are good enough for a great movie experience. Surrounds and sub will only add to it. I would suggest if you expand to a 5.1 system with this, then go for the same series for center speaker as well.

denon and polk go well together...............good choice!!! RTi are better than TSi but all depends on budget. Can go for TSi for now.............

Thanks all for your valuable advice, I will go for Denon AVR 1312/1513 and Rti A1 ...

one question
the entry level onk R 309 avr are rated at 120w/channel(clearly mentioned in specs 120w/channel at testing with one channel only....that means it cannot deliver 120 watt at all the channels at a same time..am i right?)
since the power of the avr is only 390 watt.
a book shelf whose cont power is say 100 watt and 6 ohm imp....is it okay for the avr to drive them along with a centre and a sub and 2 surrounds.no damage to avr??
I have onkyo 3400 htib whose avr is 390 watts.want to buy 2 bookshelf(souns/wharf 10.0/polk).....and replace the supplied fronts but am worried about the avr driving capacity?

if its okay then is it also okay to drive a pair of fs of 6 ohm and 100watts?

thank you

Replacing fronts with low end BS won't be a problem. But it will be suitable for listening to 2 channel music. For movies most of the sounds come from the center channel and effects come from fronts. Your fronts will over power the center and experience won't be good. You will also notice uneven sound when a surround effect sound is moving from left to center to right. Sound produced from center will be slightly different from fronts.

Your AVR should be able to take it unless you use very high volumes.

I recommend changing the fronts if you are planning to upgrade other speakers and AVR in a phased manner.

Hi all i am also planning to set up a 2.1 or 2.0 stereo setup. I have choosen Polk FS Tsi 500 Because of their 6.25 inch Driver size and reviews. i believe they will provide me a very good sound stage and Mid Range.

Is that if i choose RTi series will i get a better sound. i have heard that Rti s have smoother High freq than Tsi's. Please suggest me how true this statement will hold for getting real sound stage for Stereo Music also...

Your Suggesions are very much appriciated...:):)

For 2.0 Music setup RTi A7 or A9 will be good options, if your amp can drive them well. There are many enhancements in RTi series compared to TSi.
You can find more details on PolkAudio website.

thank you ht user.....its a wise choice then to save money for now and buy complete centre and front and rear and sub of the same series(capacity wise) and a matching avr later

I realized what u r saying is very true.....the fronts will defintly overpower the center.....thanks:)

the RTi s will sound best when there is adequate space around them.. If my room size is 13x8 ft, then how much effectively Rti's or Tsi's will sound to me...

One General question: Whats the basic purpose of upgrading from Book Shelf to Floor standing? Is it only for Extended low Freq (Bass) response or will there be improvement in overall Mid range or sound stage.

Some hands on Experienced guys out here can comment on this....

BS will have one tweeter and one mid range.
FS can have two or more mid range drivers and even Low freq drivers in addition to the tweeter. Multiple mid range drivers will give you better effect in movies. .
FS design also can incorporate more sound reproduction enhancement features because of additional space.
