so

so what exactly is responsible for this SOUL ?

Oh Man, it is the spiritual part of the amplifier and now in contrast to current widely accepted perception, these benign souls love ever burning hell hot temperatures found only in Class A amplifiers.

Seriously, it is a belief thing, placebo thing for the hardcore believer who has been doctrinated in this folklore. Non-scientifically speaking, If there is any soul anywhere, it is in the music and the psychology of a person to connect with the music regardless of how that person hears the music.

Audiophillic fanatism is a real thing. You have wars fought on Vinyls vs CD, Analog vs Digital, Class A vs the Rest, effect of interconnect, effect of power cables, risers for cables, burn-in for cables. They fail to see the real devil in the room - the room, the speaker and the source quality. Fanatics will usually believe in all the audiophile world wars that I have listed here. Don't try convincing them, even if science or double blind test tells it otherwise, because they think with their heart (instead of their mind).

yup true, but a few of them learn after a while of trial en error, maybe its a part of one's audiophile journey.

so

One will find soul in a system when system is able to draw the user in listening to it again and again. What is the soul of the system will differ from user to user. Some will look forward to the system to provide them sound-stage. For some it will be warm and smooth sound. Again for others it will details they are able to listen in music. Still for some it will be liveliness in the music.
Right from source to speakers, all equipments used should be part of the soul.
A system having a soul for one user will not carry a soul for other if what attracts them to music differs.

This is purely my personal opinion on this topic. It will be interesting to see what other senior members share on this topic. But this topic is really eye-opening on the deeper aspects of the hobby we all are into.

Yes I agree with you Morerajendra - the so called Soul of a system - is very subjective - varies from person to person (most of the time being biases one has developed or affinity to a type of distortion). Secondly the key word here is system - no single component can be responsible for the so called Soul. So simply saying that an amp. has taken away the soul (class D or otherwise) is erroneous, other components play a part too. A highly sterile, clinical and revealing speaker will sound equally "Soulless". In my case the so called "Soul" of my system is typically the distortions associated with a tubed pre-amplifier or even tubed converter. I do not prefer having the "soul" at the amplifier stage of the system - and since the thread is veering off so much from the OP's query -I always prefereed to pair the 2 Class D amps. that I have with a tubed upstream components. To me they sound significantly more musical that way.
Cheers,
Sid
