Pre/power always trumps integrated?

We just released our Hi-Fi Manifesto (The Hi-Fi Manifesto) and had a bit of a backlash over a few of the points suggested.

One of these is that pre/power will almost always trump integrated at the same level and if budget permits, pre/power with floorstanding speakers is the route to go down.

Would you agree with this? Have you ever heard an integrated that does beat a pre/power combo at a similar level?

Do not agree with that statement at all even though I do use a pre/power. It all depends on the design and implementation of the pre/power or the integrated. There is no universal rule that one is better than the other.
