I have connected Panasonic bluray player to my avr and avr out to tv. When I play bluray movie in the bd player I see HDMI1 on avr display.I guess it needs to Dolby 5.1 right? Please help me resolve this issue btw I'm using original bluray disc.

Thanks!

HDMI1 is the connection (HDMI-In) that your AVR is set on. I am assuming that you have connected your bluray player to the first HDMI In. The display would show both the connection and the input signal. It would show either 'Direct' (in dim light), 'Dolby Digital' (if you've selected Straight (assuming that the audio signal is indeed DD5.1), or any of the music/movie presets that you've chosen.

Hi Hem,

have u selected the bluray option menu in ur AVR ??if not first select that..
what is ur HDMI cable version.. sometimes the lower HDMI version will not permit higher bitrate ..(for example if u r playying a 3D content ,,then u require HDMI 1.3 version minimum)
If every thing is ok .. u need to bitstream te audio in ur Bluray player then the AVR will decode the DD5.1 ..(coz some bluray player will have 2 channel output only ..in this case u cant get the real DD5.1)

U need check the specification..audio channel output of Bluray Player..However 2 channel output will not affect u if ur having an AVR..

This is just because Display is showing the input connection. You can press info button on remote/AVR front panel to select decoder option.Another is DSP.
You should see it now.

Huh? can you name one Blu-ray player that outputs only 2.0? AFAIK, all Blu-ray players have HDMI out that output full 7.1. The inexpensive ones will output raw data that has to be decoded by the receiver. More expensive ones will have an internal decoder that will output audio into individual channels. Special players such as Oppo have high end audio decoding units that are used for CD and DSD playback. CD will output 2.0 channel, but that is because the original source is two channel.

Cheers

Guys,he said that he can see "HDMI 1" on display and not "PCM".So he has to change input selector option by pressing "info" button on AVR/remote.

Hi,

I use Pioneer's BDP 150 and BDP LX 55 and don't face any challenges thru HDMI cables which is through both Marantz AVRs. In terms of LX 55, since it has dedicated better video and audio card...I use a separate HDMI cable to the AVR and a separate HDMI to the LED.

Would suggest before indulging into any further expenses, read the Owner's manual carefully and ensure the settings are correctly done. Some AVRs allow certain video formats to pass thru....

Hope this helps...

What @spirovious is saying is right. It is problem with the display setting on the AVR - you have chosen to see the input connection (default) but you want to see the decoding. Just choose the option as he mentioned. I think the decoding is happening already (either in the blu ray player or in the AVR) based on how you have configured the devices.

Hi venkat ..

Even the one BDP which I owning is having 2 channel output only (Samsung 3D BD F5500 )..

It can able to decode all latest formats ..but the output is 2 channel ..if I'm not bit streaming it,the AVR consider the format as a 2 channel :-(

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
