raspyfi

This is great! :yahoo:
Thanks to Koushikp for the review :clapping:

@Koushikp: Can you also post a detailed step-by-step (in other words spoon feed  ) procedure of the setting up of board. that would catch interest and make it easy for everyone who are not so familiar with Linux. perhaps a personal blog!

Will do this definitely...although the steps in the raspyfi site is quite well laid out, i think it can be simplified further for people who do not like wearing their ninja gloves

Waiting for the detailed step by step guide...

Lost my Ninja Gloves .........

Where did you get stuck?

i received the raspberry from crazy pi - bangalore. Got hold of a 5V usb charger too. Got the preloaded 16GB Sd card from crazy pi.

Connected himediy USB DAC. Even purchased a wireless key pad too.

All set and ready to begin. As i checked the SD card in my laptop, it says the card is not formatted - needs to format first...

There goes my raspberry turning into strawberry !!

U see i am stuck at the very beginning ! Thanks for asking.

Don't worry, raspberries are actually nicer than strawberries :D

Wish I could help with the pi and the card. Isn't it supposed to contain a filesystem that the Pi boots from?

Oh wait...
As i checked the SD card in my laptop, it says the card is not formatted

Would that be a Windows laptop? Windows will not read Linux filesystems.

As you got the pre-loaded SD card it definitely would have the Linux distro installed in it. Do not format or check it in windows you will not be able to get any, only you will loose the installed OS. Just pop-in the SD card into the Rasp and boot it. You should be good to go. Also look at the rasp forum where they have give some instructions on how to modify to recognize and load a USB sound card by-passing the inbuilt one.

Thanks

You aren't stuck.. You are simply taking the wrong approach... You want to run raspyfi right? If you wanna use the pi as a music server with a usb dac that's the only way to go... I have tried others with all unsatisfying and inconsistent results...

Anyway...if raspyfi is what u r trying to install... Don't use the pre loaded card that you bought...I am guessing it's preloaded with a bunch of os, maybe xbmc and Debian... Simply get another card and follow instructions in the raspyfi site... If you run into any problem... Happy to help you out..

BTW, is raspyfi supported on model A RPi (with no audio performance issues)?
i see model A price is pretty low compared to model B

Not sure about that as I do not see any comments/stuff done by somebody on the net with the model A. Model B is more prevalent all over the net with the different setups and also I think it has 512mb RAM.

on element14 there is nearly 1.5k difference between two models. if 256mb is enough to run raspyfi then cost can be brought down!
@koushikp: please comment here

Model A should work without any problems ideally. But be aware that it's untested. But mikelangeloz (the author) said in his post in raspberry pi forum that it should work so I have no reason to doubt it. Be aware that you would need a powered HDD when using model A as it doesn't have Ethernet.

i think lack of Ethernet and availability of only one USB port in model A makes it not suitable for raspyfi application.

Well one can use a powered hub. But it's pointless when one think about how much a decent powered hub plus a decent power supply for it would cost. Better stick to model B because of this... But if anyone has a model A lying around... Worth a shot
