While you're at it, had read an interesting article about enabling airplay using the Rasberry Pi (only for audio though). Was tempted to order one just to try it out for fun but did not get the time.

Ya, me too eagerly waiting for your & others' verdict.
Truth be told even I am itching to do this..I have two DACs.. the neuforce udac and the audinst mx1... will try both... The audinst has an auxiliary power supply so even that should help performance.. will post tonight..

i have placed order for hifimediy sabre dac which runs using ext.power supply. this dac is listed in the supported DACs list on raspyfi site. seperate power supply should help offload the tiny raspberry pi i guess

OK... Short comment first.. Finally finished setting it up.. wasn't without hiccups.. Primarily related to configuring my nas...But in the end..In one word... superb.. As good as my htpc+DAC combo on the same setup which was earlier connected (marantz pm6004+wharfedale evo). Currently listening to it with the nuforce udac.. playing without a hitch for the last 10 minutes.. Best part.. No need to connect display or anything... All the configuration happened through putty through SSH..no need to eat the meagre power supply by connecting USB keyboard to the rpi either... Controlling the music through the mpdroid application.. again without a hitch..
OK.. Now with the audinst.. but different setup.. With my worktable audio engine a2 speakers.. No complains about sound quality... But had to drive the Audinst volume to full to get a decent volume from the speakers at their 50 PCT volume position... In the PC setup here I get this kind of volume with the audinst at the 1 o clock position.. So the auxilary power supply in the audinst is not making too much of a difference.. In the earlier case the pm6004 amplification was too strong for me to notice anything...
Anyway bottom line is now we have a music PC at 2.5k... :beer:works with most of the good DACs including the odac... hit the raspyfi website for more details on the list of supported dacs...
