Hi, have a quick query regarding my yamaha avr 473.

The audio first stopped followed by picture and then i got a 'internal error' on screen. Immediate google suggested that this could be a HDMI failure and it seems that is exactly the case.

The service center just informed me that the HDMI PCB has gone bad and needs replacement. Total cost around Rs 11,500. There is no warranty being provided for the part, but the service center is guarantying me that the part is genuine.

My query is whether:
- i should replace the part and carry on with the avr safely assuming that the part will have a good life after replacement. Also if anyone has ever replaced a hdmi pcb, what is generally the life of a replaced one?
- or if the PCB has a high failure rate, should i ditch the avr and go new?

I guess the main question is about the reliability of the PCB, how stable is it post replacement?

Feedback from anyone who has faced a similar problem would be much appreciated

Hi,

Touch wood I have not faced the issue. HDMI board replacements are expensive. Denon models also face this challenge.

Yamaha is no more built like in the 90s. For me Marantz has worked well and have used a variety of models for the last 5 years..no issues at all.

Since there is no guarantee, if I was you, I would ditch this avr and sell it to some repairer or someone else who is ready to invest in the board. I would then go for a marantz.

Since Marantz is expensive, occasionally there are sometimes avrs on sale in For Sale by Owner section or hifiads.com

You can check and take a call....

All the best!

Thanks for your reply, it is the logical thing to do.
But, I am at loggerheads cause I seem to be getting better value out of my headphones and iem's then the HT. The overall experience is a lot better and hence wondering if I should spend 50k odd on a AVR.
My speakers are paradigm monitors bs and wharf center and I probably won't upgrade after this.

I don't want to spend 11 k and be back in the same position few months later. Hence need to know if a replacement hdmi pcb unit works well

Hi

If Yamaha cannot provide any assurances for the replace PCB, then it makes no sense.

Not to go out of budget, there is a NR1605 which seems reasonable...only 2/3 months used.

Bugdet Slim 7.1 Marantz AVR Wifi Bluetooth 4k UHD - HiFiADS.com

It has the required features used today which is good and also I don't think there would be any challenge running the speakers you already have....

Yup, saw that ad. Think it's honestly over priced. Have checked prices with some dealers and they are much lesser than these online posts.

Thanks man, will speak again to yamaha tomorrow.

Ok

All the best....try to influence Yamaha to provide some assurances or bring down the costs
