Request Inputs: First Home Theatre System 5.1.2

Staging is probably less of an issue. Compact speakers actually do well for this sort of thing.

Its the scale of sound you will miss from small speakers like the B&W. I have a pair of Budget B&W floor stand speakers and a pair of KEF Eggs as surround. The KEF's barely have any heft to their sound. I can't see a world of ever using them as mains and getting by. They don't work. You will likely end up in a upgrade bug situation rather quickly.

While two front main floor stand speakers will take some floor space, they will fill the area with more sound, even at low volume levels.
hey what do you mean by heft ? I have kef speakers.
I have only noticed, they are not fast enough or not separating enough in trance music.

Thank you. Yes, I intend to watch at least 5-10 movies a month on it.
I think you should go with the AVR route. Buy a floor stander for front. Since you’re building now, you can also go for in wall speakers and acoustic transparent screen. This will give you a clean look. With speakers behind the screen, you can go with pro speakers like jbl, qsc etc. Those might not have the aesthetics of a floorstander but will perform better at a cheaper price. You can also hide a pro subwoofer too and these are cheaper than home theatre subs. Pro subs might not go low as the home theatre subs but they kick real hard in the usable spectrum which makes movies impactful to watch. For music you can use the 2.0 mode on your AVR.
All the best.
