I would like to listen to Rethm/Acoustic Portrait setup as I have started planning for an upgrade. I am looking for meeting Rethm/AP owners in Bangalore and listen to the systems. Any volunteers who would like to spare a bit of their precious time to accommodate my request?

Hi arunkvivek

I am not sure anyone uses this combo. Also I don't think anyone has a Rethm in Bangalore

Looks like I did not convey the meaning I intended to. I was not looking for a combo. I am thinking of getting an all out Rethm setup or AP setup.

Regards,
Arun

It's been a couple of years since I was there, but from what I remember, the Acoustic Portrait listening room isn't acoustically treated. It's a large, minimally furnished hall with bare brick walls. I think. Trying to jog my lazy memory :)

It is still the same. I have been there end of last year. Your memory is brilliant sir! :)

You were there on this thread.
To Acoustic Portrait Owners
Did you get in touch with either?

Absolute Phase sold Rethms for some time. Maybe they might be able to help.

Mr.Aurobindo had PMed me but the next visit never materialised. So, I have sent an email to Acoustic Portrait seeking an audition.

I shall also get in touch with Absolute Phase to seek some references.

6 months into the game and thinking about an upgrade? It is a slippery path.

How about trishna instead of dhyaana [emoji2] [emoji2]
as long as square_wave is in absolute phase..the thiyaaga can lead to the Swara which... with more dhyaana and more paisa... leads to the saadhana :D which in turn leads to the Gaanam and the sad raagam of the existing hi-fi being shown the Maarga out of the house :lol:

good luck !

hmmmmm.... the new market and the pure one...

more dhyaana - a true dhyana will make your mid and heart pure,
and detachment and love will come, so no paisa @lol

sadhna, dosent need external amp and speakers, you will be roaming outside,
sadhna is inner silence...

Maybe you didn't get the gist.
Swara and Thiyaaga are names of Acoustic Portrait products. Saadhana, Maarga, Trishna, Gaanam are from Rethm.

The six months was basically for testing waters. After the initial thrill, the time my family spends on the main system has increased significantly and we are consistently clocking at least 4-5 hours of listening on saturdays and sundays. Although, the system is in the living room, it isn't being used for TV duties. So, I can confidently say that music is my primary need.

I am able to hear tangible differences between the AVR powering my main systems and the national panasonic 2-in-1 that is powering my Tannoys. AVR has a lot of power but is losing out on detailing which I get from the 2-in-1 (though an el cheapo solution for alternate amp, it is by no means ordinary).

My intent is to move away from the current AVR to a musical setup.
There are three options, I am considering:
  • Higher segment AVR like SR5010, LX series (just in case, if I am tempted to add a center later).
  • Integrated Amplifier
  • Stereo Receiver

Any of these choices might lead to additional expenses such a phono/DAC if the new gear doesn't have one.

I am starting off with Integrated Amp route first. I want to hear the two setups to understand stereo better. I have developed a soft corner for Rethms ever since one of our FM had put his system on sale. The whatsapp video kinda opened up to how good they sounded. With regards to AP, my interest is more on the amplification. I want to find out if the incremental difference is huge or subtle to warrant the upgrade. Also, I have never heard a system from same stable. Curious about it was well.

I take a lot of time into planning and do not take a plunge quickly. I have made a list of items to improve my current setup (DIY acoustic treatments & interconnects). Having said that, I am not a critical listener and so I would take a lot of time to deliberate on pros and cons of the upgrade.

Don't have room or the M factor for Saadhana. Journey might begin with Trishna as my living room has about 230 sq ft space.

:yahoo: I have got an appointment to visit AP this Saturday; I am excited :yahoo:

AP and Rethm are very different sounding. I have heard the AP system at Siva. I own Rethm speakers.

Rethm will be much more demanding on your system. AP is a lot more forgiving. So you need to keep that in mind when deciding.

I shall keep your inputs in my mind. I am starting with AP's audition. I would like to listen to Rethm. But even new ones of Trishna would be slightly out of reach; If I like Rethms, then I would be on look out for used ones. Need big time support from WAF, if I were to buy Rethm.

As mentioned in my response to Raghu, I am contemplating on a few options. I want to explore all of them and then start narrowing down.
