Hi,

I have a Sammy LED, in which an optical out is given. Can we connect the optical cord from the TV's out to AVR OPTICAL IN. Both my AVR's optical IN are occupied one for the WD media player and the other one to Tata sky. Actually, I wanted to utilise the connection only at times when I will be using the pen-drive/ HDD direct from the TV. Of course one might ask if I have the WD player, why should i play it off the TV (via HDD). But as a matter of fact some of the files I found which are not playable via the WD, plays very well from my TV's USB. Well the video part is all done, but since we all agree that LCD's audio is very poor, and if I want to enjoy the audio in Dolby Digital/DTS for that movie I should use the optical cord. But will be signals get decoded this way even if I connect it <TV OUT-AVR IN>. As a matter of fact I did not try the feat, since the length between the TV OUT slot and my AVR is more than 4.5 ft and the cost of optical cable of 5/6 ft goes around 600/700 rupees. Just in case it does not work, the cord will be a waste.

Let me tell you that I have DENON AVR 1604. The DVD player connection by default is to No. 4 via co-axial, TV sound to no. 5 via optical(to Tata sky) , and the WD to Auxillary via optical on my AVR remote control. Even if I connect by removing say the WD optical cord momentarily, do I need to change any settings. And more over will my AVR display DD/DTS mode and respond to the signals accordingly.

Pls let me know.

I dont think your TV would have the capability to decode DD and DTS sound, neither would it have the ability to bit-stream DD, DTS so as to be decoaded by AVR. If by chance the TV does decode DD, DTS via optical out, then the AVR will display the mode. Else it just gonna downmix to stereo and play.
