Right now I am listening to ...

I would encourage all members to attend as many Chamber Music as possible to understand how to listen to and audition equipment.

Cheers

very true. thats the best advice you can give anyone while auditioning - a music system must sound just like how you would hear it live

not a fan of DMB but got this album ,going by the reviews in AV max , not too impressive on the first couple of listen and i found the recording too not that great

not too sure if i cud post this one here , recently bought a few cds on recommendation by a friend ,the company of the cds are
1--bluenote (patricia barber, best of stanley jordan,
2 --decca (robert plant & ----)
3--narada ( jesse cook -gravity,, sushella raman --salt rain & crocodiles ---,,acoustic alchamey)
these cds have extremely better quality recordings , the sound from these cds are something we need to experience its very lively--and far far superior to the commercialy available cds which really suck!! the same with the import cds they too sound far superior to thier indian counterparts ----------if the quality of our recordings tend to deteriorate as such i wud rather buy my comercial cds from a shop which sells copies of the same for jst abt 100/-(i dont think i wud loose much of the crappy original recording) rather than pay 400+ , and only buy the originals of the companies i mentioned above

Subhas ji, where one can get CDs of these companies?

I have found Decca and Narada in the PlanetM, MusicLand, etc., right here in the Delhi NCR. Another good label (IMHO) is Mystica Music (Delhi based). hav not noticed BlueNote yet. I have also not found XRCDs in India (other than very few @Oceanic, Pune).

Ashok,

If you can, grab some of those XRCDs. They sound absolutely phenomenal and really showcase the CD format.

Here are some that I own and HIGHLY recommend:

Eagles - Hell Freezes Over (Rock)

Fujiyama - Ondekoza (These are Japanese KODO drums and a true bass and dynamics test for a system)

Govi - Andalusian Nights (New Age Guitar)

Jacintha - Here's To Ben (Jazz)

Best Audiophile Voices I (I have all four, but the first one on XRCD is magic)

This is K2 HD Sound (This one will knock your socks off)

Sheffield Labs Drum and Track Disc

FIM Nature's Concertos

Bill Evans Trio - Waltz for Debby (Jazz)

(Corazon de) Mario Suzuki - Masterpiece of Folklore Music (Guitar Trio that is probably one of the best sounding acoustic guitar CD's I have heard)

=======================

I can keep going on, but get any of these and it will be an experience worth owning a system for.

have a couple more not listed. thanx.

Also, you can BLINDLY pick up ANY CD on the Stockfisch Label from Germany. Many Sara K. releases are sooooooo worth it. I can easily say that the Stockfisch CDs are the best recorded CDs in the world, bar none. Paul Gunter, the man behind Stockfisch records, does a very particular type of music which almost always includes acoustic guitars. You'll see what I mean and you pick it up. There is actually a Sara K Stockfisch CD released on XRCD...I'd get that. to begin with.

Also, Water Lily is fantastic. I know Kavi Alexander personally and have also gone up to his place in Santa Barbara to spend the day with him. I have a lot of respect for that gentleman. He really is excellent at what he does. On Water Lily I have the following which are VERY highly recommended:

LPs:
Ustad Imrat Khan Surbahar/Sitar-AJMER-SS
Ustad Ali Akbar Khan - Indian Architexture
Ustad Ali Akbar Khan - Maihar
Al-Haji Papa Bunka Susso, "Songs of Kings and Warriors"
Ry Cooder, VM Bhatt - Meeting by The River 45 RPM Acoustech double LP

CD/SACD:
Bela Fleck/ Jie Bing Chen/ V.M. Bhatt - Tabula Ras?
Simpson, Hidalgo, Krishnan & Srinivasan - Kambara Music in Native Tongues
Martin Simpson and Wu Man - Music for the Motherless Child
N. Ravikiran, Taj Mahal, V.M. Bhatt - Mumtaz Mahal
Ry Cooder and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt - A Meeting By The River
L. Subramaniam & Larry Coryell - From The Ashes
Ronu Majumdar, Ry Cooder - Hollow Bamboo

Are there any others you strongly recommend? I actually haven't bought one that I have been let down by. They all are absolutely excellent which speaks highly about Kavi's musical taste.

XRCDs are made by JVC of Japan. I'm not sure where you can buy the discs in India, but you really want to get the actual disc and not a CD-R burned copy. You see, not only is the disc mastered better, the manufacturing standards are also very high which helps reduce jitter when read by a CD player.

Here are a few sights you can buy some XRCDs from and they can ship to India as well:

Home Of XRCD!!! - elusivedisc

Eastwind Import Home US
(The owners name is Hajime. If you buy from him, let him know that Gaurav referred you and he'll take good care of your order)

CD Universe - Your Online Music Store

You should be able to order discs from these sites and get your hands on some XRCDs. Other than that, if you really want, I can buy the CDs for you and ship them over to you. I guess you can pay me through paypal or something like that. I don't mind helping my desi audiophile buddies ;)

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
