Probably the best Dire Straits album... (well its my most favorite one and yes I do love Brothers In Arms too). Somehow the music on this album seems more personal and Mark's guitar speaks volumes. Pick of the album are On Every Street, When It Comes To You, & Heavy Fuel though the entire album is excellent.

Absolutely! Any Dire Straits or Mark Knopfler Solo album is made to listen in HIFI. The guitar is orgasmic!

Serious listening... hard to believe its the work of one man and the music was recorded in a remote cabin without the use of modern equipment.

Definitely seminal work.

But I am struggling to get past his opaque lyrics, like:

Come on skinny love what happened here
We suckled on the hope in light brassieres

or

Sullen load is full, so slow on the split

I'll be damned if I understood a word of the sentences/phrases in bold.

since you mention "made to listen in HIFI" - the recording on any dire straits / mk album is spot on. right balance of being just forward enough, neutral enough, very good sound seperation. and that makes it all the more pleasurable to listen on a good music system

LOL... have to agree.

The music though is an immersive experience... never mind the lyrics don't add up.
