Never heard of Lakshmi Shankar before but what a voice! Anyone know of other album of hers?
Lakshmi Shankar (born Lakshmi Sastri, 16 June 1926 30 December 2013) was a noted Hindustani classical vocalist of the Patiala Gharana. She was known for her performances of khyal, thumri, and bhajans.[1][2][3] She was the sister-in-law of sitar player Ravi Shankar and the mother-in-law of violinist L. Subramaniam (her daughter Viji (Vijayashree Shankar) Subramaniam being his first wife).

Really wonderful, yes. I have a couple of CDs, Hindustani classical, (Navras, London, I think) but one has gone unplayable

Thanks. I am looking at Lakshmi Shankar: Evening Concert and the other album below that. Sadly, I only see one track of hers. Not sure if the $20worth spending.
If you listen to vinyls there areNever heard of Lakshmi Shankar before but what a voice! Anyone know of other album of hers?
The CDs that I have of hers would have been purchased in London. See Navras Records for details of a tribute event if you happen to be in London in October. I couldn't see her CDs though.
If you listen to vinyls there are
1) A musical bouquet Laxmi Shankar
2) Laxmi Shankar - Self Titled
3) Nirmala Devi with Laxmi Shankar
4) Laxmi Shankar - Khayal, Thumris and Bhajans
there may be many more but I have listened to all of the above vinyls. The one I liked the most is fourth one. It has Laxmi Shankar with L. Subramaniam and Zakir Husain. Absolutely Fantastic !
Regards.
Nirmala Devi is a fine classical singer and mother of filmstar Govinda. Two people at extreme ends of a creative pursuit. Thanks guys. I managed to download from Presto and also this from Amazon
the thing I heard the most the last few hours of listening was the LEDR track "cockroaches" - as my son puts it. I am pleased to report that they climb up walls and arc in rainbows quite satisfactorily now
