Right now I am listening to ...

Well lets all agree that Dire Straits and in particular MK rock. BTW I do like all the songs in On Every Street but would rank the top 3 as On Every Street, When It Comes To You, and Heavy Fuel.

@srikarkav - Get everything of Dire Straits you can and then you can start on the solo albums of MK. To start off with I can recommend Mark Knopfler - Golden Heart, Mark Knopfler - Shangri-La, Mark Knopfler And Emmylou Harris - All The Roadrunning and in particular for guitar strumming Mark Knopfler And Chet Atkins - Neck And Neck.

Love Over Gold is certainly tops - no q. I would probably just invert the ranking order for 2 & 3, but it would be a close run thing. In my book, Making Movies is better than On every Street.

Just to add to this, my standout tracks in each of these albums woud be
1) LOVE OVER GOLD - Private Investigations (IMO, its the best song MK has managed in his entire career) followed by Telegraph Road
2) DIRE straits (Self titled) - Water of Love followed by SoS
3)Brothers in Arms - Your latest Trick followed by MFN
4)Making Movies - R & J followed by Les Boys
5)On every Street - On every Street followed by My Parties

Let the disagreements begin .......

WOW very similar choice of songs. No arguments from my side. Maybe a few additions from each of the albums.

Add KILL TO GET CRIMSON to that list. IMO very good.
One word of advice srikarkav try and get all the imported cds of the band and they are easily available at least in bbay. Recordings are all very good and the price is a 100 Rs over the Indian copy amd is well worth it.

@srikarkav - If I may I would recommend another group that's a must have, Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Do try to get Creedence Clearwater Revival - Chronicle, Vol. 1 The 20 Greatest Hits & Creedence Clearwater Revival - Chronicle, Vol. 2 Twenty Great CCR Classics, great band and great music.

100% concur. picked up a local copy of BinA by mistake and it was awful: very shrill and bright.

@ srikarkav

all the better quality ds albums are available at landmark for less than 500 bucks each. to identify them easily, look for the word 'remastered' on the front left of the jewel box.

Srikarkav,
I dont know about chennai but all the Dire straits (imported, digitally remastered) cds are available at Rhythm House in bbay for under Rs 400. U could order online and have them courier it to u.
