Hello Fellow members,

Its been 3 months since I am savoring the music from Dali Zensor3, Dali E12F and Marantz NR1607, and I am out again in pursuit to complete 5.1 setup.

1st preference would certainly be from the DALI family, however, the dilemma is, can I use Zensor3 as a surround if I go for Zensor5 for front or should I look for Z1 for surround and continue with Z3 as front?

Wouldn't Z3 be an overkill for surround if I add Z5 as front?

I am inclined a bit towards FS.

For center, I am considering Dali Vocal, which I have almost Zeroed upon.

Kindly advice on front and surround combination.

I am also open for different labels as long as it serves my purpose which is 50:50 :: Music:Movie.

Budget <= 65-70K for both center and front/surround.

Listening distance is ~7ft (distance from my music console to couch).

Please enlighten me with your wisdom :D

What is missing from the z3 and subwoofer combo? In case more bass is needed, I would rather add a subwoofer and get the zensor1 for surrounds. My 2 cents.

Hi Kumar,

I think Dali Z3 are really capable speakers and using them for surrounds is not going to do justice with them, however it could be good choice as surround in really big rooms specially considering its sensitivity.
In small and medium to large rooms, Dali Z1 might be better suited speaker if want to keep it with Dali strictly.
If you really have to change your fronts to Floorstands, then Dali Z5 are good choice but Dali Z7 will be excellent choice.
For center, Dali Z VOKAL is again excellent choice.

Looking at your AVR, Z3 as fronts, Vokal as center and Z1 as surround will be just perfect.
Unlocking crazy performance for Z5 or Z7 may require more juicy and punchy amplification.

As advised above, retain z3 as front. Get a matching Dali center and for surrounds get one those polks tsx/ tsi/T series speakers . Polks are bright speakers and will go well as surrounds speakers with Z3 in front. Polk owm3 are also excellent surround speakers if the distance to listening position is less.

Need a proper 5.1 set up for movie experience.

M really happy with 2.1 for music but seems something is lacking wen it comes to movie experience.

Hello Guddu,

Thanks for the wonderful piece of advice.

Would it be fair to go with Z1 as surround and Z3 as front?

Have auditioned Z1 and have really liked it but have not heard it along with center and surround.

I am really not doubting Z3's capabilities as it is doing wonders to my music experience.

Given the fact that my AVR is not that powerful for FS, will certainly consider Z1 as surround and this will save me a lot of money..:ohyeah:

please advice if this wud be good enough..

For movies... Center speaker is important so that's what you would be missing.

Z1 can be surround Speakers and go for Dali same series center.... As large as possible

Just simply buy vocal and z1. This is more than enough for any room size.

Zensor 1 will be ideal and good for surrounds. If ur listening room is big hall, then u can make a choice of zensor 3 as surrounds.

+1 to tuff. I also echo the same words.
Dali Zensor3 + Vokal + Dali E12F will be a deadly combo, moving Z3 to surrounds is as simple as the speakers are not in use at all. Go for Z1 as surrounds which is more than enough.
Replacing Z5 as fronts will not making really any difference to movie watching, but may be it can make a huge difference for music.
Stick with the same setup for some more days, if you got the money try adding another sub which will enhance your movie watching experience for sure.

If you are looking just Dali Zenser than better go for Z3/Vokal/Z1 with Dali E-12F. If you switch to Z5/Z7, definately you may not be happy with the performance of FS and may immediately urge to upgrade AVR. Your AVR will definitely play Z5/Z7 but not with the up-most performance level what we expect from FS. It will fall short on power ,dynamic and bass punch. Generally FS need more power to perform well compare to BS. While watching movies when all channels are driven, you may find your AVR is running out of power. If you plan to upgrade AVR in near future then go for FS else BS. For Surround speakers which mostly use while watching movies, also look for Bipole or Dipole speakers. They will give you more wider and immersive surround sound field and can cover larger area.

Thanks members (Mash, MPW,Vinothkumar,Rajithkumar,Sanlyon, rpmahale) for the valuable suggestions, based on which i have almost decided to go for Z1 as surround and Z vocal as center.

Can you please also suggest the best price in bangalore for these two units?

Congratulations, that would be an excellent combination. DNI and HT Store stock Dali. You could contact them for the quotes. Z3 was 34k if I remember right with a 10-15% discount on it.

Yes... If you go with Dali Zenzor series speakers, you won't look for center and surround upgrade for long time.

Edge with front FS is the depth and overall impact but requires powerful input as well, but Zenzor 3 performs really very well with AVRs pumping 50-100 WPC.

All 5 speakers of same make adds +1 to tonal balance, specially during music in the tracks.

One edge you would be having after Dali Z3 + VOKAL + Z1 combination is that you can later go for more powerful & punchy AVR, and hopefully you will get your movie experience redefined with improved throw in the sound upfront.

Dali Zenzor 1 should be around 22k, depending on the deal you steal.

I am sure you would enjoy every bit of this setup once you get it at your home :)

All the best

If you can accommodate Z3 as a center speaker, you will have a uniform, seamless front soundstage.

Yes that is correct, I remember the Z3 price since I was auditioning them. I vaguely remember him mentioning Z1 to be around 25k, not sure though, hence did not mention it in the previous post.
