Hi everyone,

i wanted to get about 3 SACD titles for my listening pleasure..

Please suggest a few which you have heard.

Can listen to everyting except heavymetal and trance.

mpw

my SACD player outputs 2 channel music.. i understand many SACD's come in 5 channel version..

Also, try SA-CD.net - Bela Fleck & Vishwa Mohan Bhatt: Tabula Rasa

The liner note itself is worth the price. The music is an exquisite marriage of many cultures. The sonics are non-pareil. I got mine from Rhythm House long back (rather a friend of mine bought it from there and it was among the many CDs he discarded and I gratefully picked up gratis). Don't know if they have stock currently. International prices of this album has gone up to insane levels (Euro 77, 119 CDN$).

Ella and Louis - Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong (Verve)

If given an option to buy just one SACD, this would have been my choice.

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms is a favorite of mine. Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon is supposed to be good, but I dont have it.

Try Claire Martin: He Never Mentioned Love on Linn Records. Although I have a lot of classical SACDs this is a nice one to listen to.

Some of the SACD's, off the top of my head, thay I have enjoyed listening to:

Amazon.com: The Dark Side of the Moon: 30th Anniversary Edition: Pink Floyd: Music

hi mpw

i have a few titles on sacd; the ones i remember offhand are given below. all of them are clearly marked as 'hybrid' - which allows them to be played in a regular 2 channel cdp.

- dark side of the moon: floyd (30th anniversary edition)
- gaucho: steely dan
- blood sutra: vijay iyer
- last temptation of christ (passion): peter gabriel
- treasury: nick drake
- so: peter gabriel
- pride and joy: kevin mahogany
- brain: hiromi

while the sony bdp in my ht rig plays sacds, i haven't tried these there. have only played them through a regular cdp, as i'm not a fan of multi-channel music.

of the lot, DSOTM is a must have. i can only imagine what it would sound like via a quality 2 channel sacd player.

some that i like listening:

Circle Of Drum- Babatunde Olatunji
This Left Feels Right- Bon Jovi
Tea For The Tillerman- Cat Stevens
Time Out- Dave Brubeck
When I look in your eyes- Diana Krall
The Look Of Love- Diana Krall
Love Scenes- Diana Krall
Brothers In Arms- Dire Straits
Hope- Hugh Masekela
The Legend of Zorro- James Horner
A Love Supreme- John Coltrane
Keb' Mo'- Keb' Mo'
Shangri-La- Mark Knopfler
Kind Of Blue- Miles Davis
Come Away With Me- Norah Jones
The Hot Spot- OST
The Dark Side Of The Moon- Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here- Pink Floyd
Genius Loves Company- Ray Charles
Black & White Night- Roy Orbison
Getz/Gilberto- Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto
Gaucho- Steely Dan
Sacred Love- Sting
1812 Overture- Tchaikovsky

yesterday i received Tabula Rasa from amazon uk. Got it for about 13 pounds landed.

Just now.. had a chance to play and hear my first SACD and the experience was sublime.

Was it because of the artist ?
was it because of my equipment chain ?

dont know.. but there are a few observations :-

a. I enjoyed at 12 o clock volume position. In normal CD's i cannot go about 10 o clock as it gets too loud. I do not know why i had to increase the volume to this level. But funnily.. the sound was not loud at all.

Was it the type of music being played ? or any technical reason ?

b. Am mighty happy with the combo i have right not. Just about perfect for me.

c. Sometimes i had to look up to see if my surround speakers were in action.. i swear.. i could feel the sound coming from above / behind me.. not full passages.. but bits of it.

d. The instrument separation was very precise.. and i think the CD inlay cover also says this.. this particular CD was recorded in 1 sitting for most songs.. no mixing, no re-recording, no brushups.. nothing..

d. I do not believe a Floorstander would have done a better job. Re-affirms my faith in quality bookshelves for 2 ch stereo..

Am getting more SACD's by next week and will listen to these too. As of now - this 1 SACD is fabulous. I must thank jls i think for pointing this out to me. I never heard it.. just bought it.

Sorry for the mispost. I do not know how to cancel the post hence could only edit it like this. I would love to hear the BHATT on SACD. I understand Water Lily uses Esoteric gear in their production of cds and sacds.
