"Defending the app, Patra said it is designed to protect users from fraud and crime, not to monitor them, and emphasised that people are free to remove it from their phones if they do not wish to use it. The app cannot read your messages. It cannot listen to your calls, incoming or outgoing. Sanchar Saathi cannot reach or breach your personal data. He added that the app helps provide security, check fraud, track stolen mobile phones, and return them to their owners."

problem may not be the app itself
but more with how those in power want to shove this down everyone's throat without their consent or a right to de-install

It does raise suspiscion cos they dont care about the air we breathe but are very concerned about our hand phone.

press reports speak about "orders" being issued to handset makers without discussion or debate or permissions

well...this saathi is someone i can do without.

The government directive clearly says the app’s functions cannot be disabled or restricted at the time of first use or device setup.

It’s just a matter of reading the actual order with attention. The phrase is to not let phonemakers use ulterior means to hide the app. User was already free to uninstall it if he/she wished so.




As it happens every time, Vested interests manufacture outrage and people not used go beyond targeted headlines just follow. At the end i’s all just turns out false.

BTW does anybody remembers Aarogya Setu app?

People are ready to share everything with google facebook instagram. When govt comes out with something with the intention of prevention of cyber crime they are worried about their privacy even after govt assuring about its safety.
I have downloaded this app 6 months back. It really helped me to block my lost phone with in few minutes. I need not call customer care wait for the operateor.
There are so many useful safty featured with app.

Perhaps the government has trust issues to work on.

Any compulsion is never good

Let each person decide for themselves what they want to use and when without being forced to do anything against their will

If it is useful the people will download
If not..then ..it belongs on app store

Consensus of the people regarding collection of personal details for any app or otherwise is important for them to decide.
When Aadhar and Pan details get leaked out so what can one say about half baked and suspicious apps even on the phone's playstore.
