Hello Friends!!

I am new to this forum and bumped into it while searching for TV review websites as I have been looking to buy one for a month now.

In my quest, I came across a showroom in Delhi which claims to have SONY Products which are kept in display and offers a whopping 43% discount on MRP :licklips:...:yahoo:
I have visited it and it has limited stock and keeps it to minimum as not place to keep it but gives full manufacturer warranty on all the products.

Now, after starting with looking for an 40" LED, after going to lot's of reviews/comparison of technologies et al (i got inclined towards Plasmas for a while) but I think LEDs would suit me better. Reason:

1) I am a big movie enthusiast and have a lot's of movies in HDD/Laptop/DVDs but I also like to watch TV for sports/news etc and here Plasmas score low as compared to LEDs(watching SD content)..(I am no expert..this is what I have gathered after reading through posts and reviews and also saw pics posted by a fellow member who bought 40XT50 and is happy with HD & 3D but not that much with SD..
2) The Sony Seconds Sale Showroom..offer of 43% discount. So, a 40EX650 which is priced at Rs 68,900/- would cost me Rs 39,273/-.

I am pretty much inclined towards buying EX650 and wanted your opinion on this "seconds sale" option..

Is it safe to buy from there...They provide full manufacturer warranty but the product might have some scratches or marks...

Anything else i should be careful about..how's the decision of buying EX650?

As I mentioned, going through the posts I have realized that the forum has got some really knowledgeable people whose suggestions would help me a lot in forming a decision...Please pour in your valuable comments...

EX650 is great but when you are getting such a hefty discount, why miss the chance of lapping up a 40HX850 for 50k ? ;)

Buddy where is this shop where u get 50% discount.???

Thanks for your suggestion...But I would really benefit if any one of you would suggest what factor to be carefull about while going through such a deal. If you could answer the below questions, that would be great:

1) Will I run into any kind of risk vis a vis the quality and durability of the product, if it's a diaplay product from showrooms?
2) Any specific thing I should take care/notice of while purchase/delivery?
3) Has anyone gone through such a deal in the past, if yes, if he/she could share their experience.

You can also tell, if I should avoid this totally and grounds for that.

This shop is in Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi

I know such shops in Palika bazaar. Many years back I brought a Mini DV cam DCR PC 109e from there just for 31k when it was 55k MRP in market.
But later a cam expert told me it was used as its video head was not new.
So you have to be careful.
Just give it a thought; why would they sell it for so cheap, in my view better to spend more than to buy a defected used item, seller may have noticed some defect before throwing it away for such price.

Me too willing to buy EX650 or any other such model. Can you please give the Full address of the shop at Lajpat Nagar. Also confirm if they do accept Credit Card.

I don't think they will accept credit card.
They sell 2nd hand tvs.
I still think gaffar is a safer choice.(Just picking the best among the worst here)

Cheers

Okay! Let me clarify that they do not sell second hand TVs. What they sell are the TVs that are put on displays in Showrooms and it is an Authorised SONY outlet. The TVs can have minor marks of ear and tear(scratches etc.), which you can always check and decide if you are confortable with or not. No one is forcing you to buy. They try to sell such TVs by offering discouts(which is quite heavy)..This much I know...I started this thread to understand if anyone has information which I may be missing here. The shop next to it is a Sony AUTHORISED service center. Moreover, they provide full manufacturer warranty on the product. Whatever I have written in this post has been written earlier as well. Please read carefully before making such assumptions.

Now, if anyone would like to answer my questions, that would be appreciated.

@Bubba: Are you sure it factory seconds? Is the dealer ready to provide company warranty on the product bought or just a dealer warranty? Sony does not likes to under price its products. They even have guidelines as to what's the lowest price a dealer may sell their product at - although Korean competetition must have lead them to water down their terms to some extent in todays date.

Why not take a trip to Thailand and buy one while coming bak!:D

Pick up the HX850. Apart from some minor scratches on the back panel, you'll not find anything wrong.
Manufacturers warranty will cover the panel, so no worries. You can also pick up the extended warranty by calling up the service center.
So go ahead, and pick up the display.

Thanks Ankur!

I think I will wait for a few more responses and make some more enquiries and then will decide about whether to go ahead or not.

Falcon! It is a Sony authorised center for such products only and as far I have managed to gather, such showrooms are quite common. There are a couple for Samsung and Panasonic as well. Not sure of the locations though.

sony itself a second class company.. i hate their mobiles and tv.. they are worst than china products... even camera they r loosing/ only pstation and cam card are worth a try..
if u got money to buy sony better throw money in dustbin than to buy their tv and repent later..
samsung and panasonic the class in tv..
lg is equal to china tv....
sony oops the worst in quality( no after sale support, product support and spare parts of any model they will suddenly stop, sometimes spare is 98% value of entire same new product) but with 1080p material and show room set up will make u to believe they r best..
of course if ur old indian, will say sony the best..

@OP, if there is a sony service station near to the shop where you will get the items at hefty discounts, ask the service people whether the warranty is proper and you can avail extended warranty for a fee. If the say yes, go ahead with the purchase. You may also ask for the warranty card at the shop before paying money.
Such shops do exists, but not in the prominent areas. The problem with company seconds that there will be only one or two pieces at a time ( of the same product), which may be displayed there. Once I have an offer for a samsung TV at nearly 40% discount. But by the time I did my enquiries finally decided to buy, it was already bought by some body else who have lesser doubts than me.
So waiting for detailed and convincing opinions will not help when you are buying seconds. Just ensure only one thing: that the item is genuine company seconds and the defects of the set are acceptable to you.

If their Tvs are bad then how come Sony gets Tv of the year award?

I am waiting as the TV I want is not available with them and you are right they do not get products in bulk, just a couple of items at a time. I'm in continuous touch with them. Just utilising this time to get some suggestions.

Thanks for your input.
