Hi Friends,

I want to have new HT in my home for my new yet to buy tv.Is Polk CSIA4 and Polk PSW 110 sub is enough to start up with ? Other option is Jamo S 426 HCS 3 Home Cinema Systems is this good? Thanks.

i dont have any avr. planning to have one bdp. my budget is 25k max.Read in some thread that sub and center is enough to build and later we can add others .

The speakers you mentioned need an amplifier (AVR) to drive them. For 25K you can go for HTiBs like Onkyo 3400 which comes with speakers and avr.

Thanks Baijuxavior. But is AVR really needed to drive psw 110 and csi a4 centre. Because for my old samsung lcd tv im using philips ht dsp3300 with sony dvd player. i dont need any avr. This is my doubt.Cant those two directly connect to blue ray player and i use it.

Let me explain this. Usually these cheap 5.1 systems have six amplifiers inside the subwoofer enclosure - one for the subwoofer and the rest for satellites and center channel. You usually connect the 5.1 analog out of dvd player to the 5.1 inputs at the back of the subwoofer. But this is not the case with serious home theater systems. Their subwoofers (like the PSW110) have a single amplifier (and so known as powered subwoofer) only. For the 5 channels you need a separate amplifier. Here comes the role of AVR which is the center of the HT system. It can accept multiple inputs in the form of HDMI, optical, coaxial and 2 channel analog. The AVR then decodes the audio signal received from the hdmi or optical/coaxial output of your dvd or blu-ray player, amplifies and outputs through 5 or 7 amplifiers depending on 5.1 or 7.1 system. The AVR has no amplifier for subwoofer. Instead it provides a subwoofer line out which you connect to line-in of the powered subwoofer. This means a 5.1 AVR has only 5 amplifiers. However some entry level HTs like Onkyo 3400/3500 has all the 5.1 amps inside the avr unit and the subwoofer is passive (no amplifier).

Thanks Baju for the detailed explaination.I understand now.So AVR is the first i need to add if i want my own HT setup and then the speakers and sub one by one.JAMO one i specified is it gud? How abt Yamaha 296HTib .

First you have to decide which way to go - simple HTiB or upgrade in steps. If budget allows go for the step by step route. First start with a good AVR and a pair of book shelf or floor stander speakers. Then add CC, surrounds and subwoofer one by one. But this is very expensive and takes time. A good AVR alone will cost you 30K for which you can buy HTiB like Yamaha 296 or Onkyo 3500.

JAMO speaker system will be better than the tiny speakers of these entry level HTs, but you still need AVR. I suggest you to take a demo of these HTs.
