By decent speaker wires do you mean those that don't wrap around women's bodies and lech at them? Speaker wires that are obedient and dutiful and do what you tell them to do?

Please clarify? :)

Cheers

Audio store in Mount road ritchie street costin
120/mtr for Bandrige (sorry for spellin mustake )

If any one know price of monster cables /mtr pls get me the address
thanks in advance

WOW! I never thought speaker wires would be so expensive :) But as I read through the forum, I understand how important the quality of the wire is.

One more question.Considering I use a good quality speaker cable. How long will you think the surround speaker cable can be, before the sound quality takes a hit?

Also same case for the sub wiring, mines a co-axial cable.how much do they cost and how long can it be before the quality is lost.

Thanks

Hi,

You can try MX cables also. In my opinion, they are decent cables in terms of quality and price. I bought 12 gauge cable for Rs. 45/metre. Vinsun Agencies is the main distributor for MX cables but they sell in bulk only (100 metres). However, you can get the same cables to the desired length in a shop located opposite to Vinsun. Contact Vinsun and they will guide you.

Contact details:
VINSUN AGENCIES
3-B, Wallers Road, Anna Salai
Chennai
Pin : 600 002
Phone: 044-4214 9038

Check the variety of cables from MX: MDR Electronics - MX Electronics - Home Theater Cables & Connectors - Computers & Laptop Accessories - Pro Audio / Studio Audio Cables & Connectors - Audio Video Components & Accessories - Fiber Optic Component & Accessories - Cable TV Component & Ac

If you decide to buy MX cables, remember the product numbers that interest you. This may be useful for enquiry purpose.

Where exactly is Torvin Nowadays. 2-3 years ago, it was off ritchie street on the left , first floor, in the street which leads you to backside of zimpsons if you keep walking and cross the slum clearance board area. Last 2-3 times I was there, torvin seems to have disappeared. I have been to torvin and the amount of speakers and the variety of demos they have is overwhelming!

I hopefully think torvin is still in ritchie street i saw even last week

DAC 14 Rs 83/mtr In Pro musicals Egmore thanks to srikarkav

Wires come in different guages (aka AWG). Among other things, the choice of guage also depends on the length of the wire to be used in the application. Thumb rule is the longer the length, lower the guage, thicker the wire. In a typical HT/home audio setup, you use 16 to 12 guage. For most, 16 should be good enough in a typical home scenario (can go as long as 80 ft without any discernible drop in audio quality).

You can find some more info here and here

Thanks for your eyeopener. Once I get the exact length from the electrician who is doing the conduits , I will calculate the AWG and procure it from Vinsun as guided by Muthu

Does this AWG rule apply for the woofer Coaxial as well? Any ideas on which would be a good co-axial go ahead with?

Thanks
Timothy

Hi,
Went to Vinsun last saturday and was redirected to power electronics which is their branch. Got
http://www.mdrelectronics.com/ProductDisplay.asp?PID=1533 for Rs.55/m . The damm wire is as thick as a insulated mixer/grinder wire :)

Also got a 25 mtr interconnect RCA for the woofers. It has RCA molded on either side. Guess need to cut one end, pass it through the conduit and then solder a male jack back in.

Thanks
