Guys, as my signature says I have a stereo set up, and I mostly listen to HEAVY METAL and I really like cranking up the volume.. Now a problem has come ,with the avianos trying hard to cope up with the loudness abuse. So i am actually looking for a pair of "B" speakers, specifically floor standers than can take the loudness abuse and still give me good reproduction of sound. Would really appreciate your suggestions on this, my hi fi dealer has been insisting on getting a pair of Klipsch RF 52s or 62s for the need..
So i just wana know the pricing around for the klipschs or any other speakers in a similar budget or less thats not gona let me down..

HELP would really be appreciated

Your hi-fi dealer is spot on ....... RF series would be about the best.

You may also try out the Klipsch RB 81 .... speaker pair should set you back by 50-60K ... yes, thats expensive for big bookshelves!

Thanks for the reply.. Well would there be any other speakers that would qualify?? coz i have heard mixed reviews of the klipschs.. Even in this forum it is so..

For heavy metal music, I believe bright speakers such as RF52s would do good. Minus the brightness, I found them to be excellent speakers, and negotiable below 50K here in Bangalore :)

Go for Klipsch F30's & RF82's they have 8" woofers you so desire.

Try the Paradigm Moniter 9's too

Most importantly, listen to the speakers first & then decide as your ears are the best judge :)

Pricing can be worked out once you confirm which speakers you liked ;)

Thanks for the replies Denom and milestone, the main problem I face is that the dealer here doesnt stock Klipschs. And not many own Klipsch speakers here, atleast to his knowledge. Thats where the demo part gets nasty.. Any Klipsch owners in the forum mind sharing your views???

Why don't you list down what is available with you for demo at your place? Since, for all the opinions you may ask for, it is your own ears you can trust (and you know that too).

I did audition the avianos and bought them, and they were doing justice to the genre, but at high volumes the speakers are giving signs of fatigue.. And the dealer guy rightly pointed out one thing. Dont go by what hi fi ratings or others in this case coz they do the tests with classical, pop , jazz and those kinds of music.. which is true..
And as far as the stock he has, he says Mission, Wharfedale, Mordaunt Short, Quads, Dali, Jamo none of these can take abuse as the Klipschs do.. So i am unsure of all these

+1 to Square's suggestion. Haven't listened to them, but they do sound very much like a head banger/ metal head's cup of tea :).

Cheers

Bright speakers though may sound right for metal would give you an ear fatigue on even slightly prolonged hearing sessions...the Denon amp in itself is pretty bright...

budget notwithstanding, you should consider these too -
Epos M22i
PSB T6
Monitor Audio BR6 or RX6
ATC SCM40
Proac Studio

These are speakers that I've found do very well on metal (stuff like Dream Theater, Fates Warning and Symphon X...)

The other alternative is to go for good standmounts and a sub...though I personally would not go down that alley...

@soulforged : even i don't like the idea of a subwoofer being part of my music, u know the mids from the front and bass being generated off some corner in my room.. No WAY!!
As for listening taste I listen to anything rock, from Led zepp, the WHO, Black Sabbath, the NWOBHM Bands like Maiden, Motorhead, Saxon, Diamond Head, the 80s thrash lords Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, testament, Exodus, Metallica, Prog Rock like Dream theater, Queensryche and Death Metal.. Then Jazz, acid Jazz, the list just extends..

thanks for all your suggestions, i'm gona pull this list out to my dealer and ask for help.. Else when I travel to Bangalore or Mumbai find dealers for these and audition em..

After a lot of research on the internet too people have recommended the cerwin wegas and Klipschs for loud listenin with a footnote "its your ears, make a wise choice" !!!!

What is your budget? All the above speakers suggested cost more than 75k to start with PSB, rest you can guess.;)

I have had very good auditions of metal on the Usher X-718, the smaller sibling of the Be-718, at ARN and the Dynaudio Excite 12 at Decibel. The Usher is cheaper than the Dynaudio but both are pretty good speakers with the right ingredients for metal.

Don't look only at floorstanders. At some price points, there are bookshelves which will do everything you need.

@kittu : I'm plannin to spend upto 60k, stretch it by another 5 or 10 if the speaker impresses me that much..

@Bluu : I'm cool with bookshelves too, but my query is at louder volume levels, can book shelves take that abuse?? The avianos are giving me a decent reproduction and i am more than happy with them. The only place they are letting me down is when I wana play LOUD which I do most of the time. Then they start to sound as if they're falling apart..That's when the whole floorstander concept came into the picture

Why dont you go for full-rangers , diy route?

You can seek help from Sreekanth , tantony , anil and other expert DIYer's.

I'm pretty sure both the speakers I have written about will outperform the Aviano's in the loudness department. You can also look at JBL speakers. Some of their stuff can raze buildings.

I have heard Klipsch RF 62 and it definitely sounds bright to my ears. An elderly gentleman who is on the lookout for a new setup wanted me and a friend to have a listen. He (the elderly gentleman) had liked it a lot, much more than a Dali Ikon 6 which he had also auditioned. His feedback was - it sounds clear even at low volumes. I guess for him the positive of the RF 62 is the good highs (being a 60+ senior citizen whose sensitivity to high freqs is no longer as good).

I listened to only a handful of songs on the RF 62, but none of the songs would qualify as metal (I have sort of outgrown metal and heavy rock:) though they were my staple while growing up). To my ears, the RF 62 sounded unnatural. One example was Andy McKee doing his slap guitar number "Drifting" (check out Youtube where it has had 10+ million hits). The slap sounded like he was slapping on a metal plate and not the wooden (acoustic) guitar body as it should. I guess it will sound fatiguing in the long run. But then one doesn't listen to metal and hope to hear soothing sound:lol:

An audition is definitely called for for you to make an informed decision.
