Hi,

Has anybody been able to run a version > 7.5.x of sbs on their seagate home NAS ?
I recently ordered a Touch and want to run the server on my NAS.

Thx
Amit

I am running squeezebox 7.5 on my Unraid NAS. I have also ordered touch and waiting from my friend to bring it from US.

HI Sam,

Let me know when you get it , perhaps we can tune it together. I am also waiting to get it by this weekend.

Thx
Amit

Amit, why not get a NetGear RND 2000 and have peace of mind. I am not affiliated with NetGear, but have used their products for long and they continue to dazzle me years after years. I wouldn't skimp on loose change for something as important as a storage device.

NetGear RND 2000 supports SBS officially, and has firmware available.

Ranjeet,

You are right. SBS is has builds over ReadyNAS, I bought Seagate Home 2TB 1 yr back for 7.5K, before the thailand floods.

Now that I am on a sbs ecosystem, it may make sense for readynas but cost is big factor for me , so next year is the plan.

Just to logically close this thread, I installed Arch linux on Go Flex Home. It tool all of 20 minutes. File transfer speeds are now in > 30 MB/sec. Squeeze center yet to be installed, will try doing on weekend.

1. Installed Arch Linux using the link Oscar provided:

2. Went through "first steps":

3. Made a swapfile:

4. Went through the package management tutorial:

5. Installed Webmin:

SBS can be installed on almost all variants of Linux (and ofcourse windows as well), Logitech however officially only recommends ReadyNAS.

@AMIT I got my SBT few days back. Have also configured to to use it with my UNRAID. Will update in details in my UNRAID thread probably.

Other than a few supported versions SBS will need to be compiled on the OS.
To tinker with OS of your NAS , is playing with fire. It may just brick the device.

WD NAS is a ARM device , so there should be flavor of Debian / Arch for it. Debian is better since you can possibly get binary SBS on it.
